Volunteer to walk a shelter dog

I am finally doing this

I realized that I really do not have time for this goal.

Yesterday was seven months since Gala’s passing, and somehow, I still feel a bit uneasy about this goal. Yet I feel better in many respects, and my daily walks with Uma and her mingling with other dogs have certainly helped me overcome my sentiments.

While at the vet’s office yesterday, I finally got the courage to volunteer to weekly walk one of their shelter dogs. Unfortunately, they don’t have any dogs at the moment, so I guess that’s fortunate really :) I left my phone number, so they can call me anytime they need me.

I won’t check this goal just yet until it really happens… but at least I made my first intention towards it and, especially, towards the dogs who need it :)

I haven’t begun to look on the internet to see if there are any Dog Shelters near by that allow this. It’s hard for me to start anything new..

I am a volunteer dog walker for the United Kingdom charity the Dogs Trust. I walk dogs from a shelter near West Calder a short distance from where I work.

Not only is it helpful for the dogs to get out and have a walk with someone but it also means that you get to have fun and exercise too. Since I love dogs but can’t have my own this scheme is wonderful.

Also if you think you could volunteer then check out the Trust’s website and if it’s just money you can give then that’s fine too. The Dogs Trust never puts a healthy dog down which means there are dogs that because they cannot be rehomed for a variery of reasons must be looked after by the Trust for life and that takes a lot of charity!
