How to learn guitar

How I did it: I've always had a vague interest in playing guitar, as pretty much the majority of my friends have atleast minimal skill at it. I've had several cheap guitars here and there lying around, never learning any more than a few lousy power chords and really easy songs. After a year or two of messing around, my best friend got a really nice guitar, and I just asked her to teach me everything she knew. Lessons & tips: Seriously; just pick it up and start playing! If you don't have a guitar already, just get something for starters and mess around with it, learning the basics, which you can find through searching the internet, friends, trial and error. If you find yourself with a good liking for guitar, save up for a nice one and go full speed ahead into playing! You'll never be bored again. Resources: Throughout my beginner stages and the vast majority of my guitar-playing life, I was completely self-taught via internet, books, and friends, so if you can't find what you're looking for I'll be glad to assist you with what I've used. At this point in my life however, I do have a guitar teacher, so if you find self-teaching to be too much of a trouble or just want the assistance (which, if you get a good teacher, will be well worth it), then that may be something for you to consider.

How I did it: I got up and grabbed an acoustic guitar from my basement and started to learn some chords online. Then, after I memorized most of the basic chords, I went on to learning scales and barre chords. As I got faster in speed, I started to go on ultimate-guitar.com and searched up tabs on some simple songs. About ten songs later, I saved up and bought an electric guitar and an amp. Just finished my first month of Guitar 10 (Victoria High School). Learning pretty fast for basics, can play several simple chords and basic classical guitar. Top accomplishment to date: playing “Saria’s Song” from Ocarina of Time.

I decided I’d persuade my parents to buy me a guitar
I’ve failed miserably at piano and clarinet as a kid, thus my parents weren’t keen to give me another try
but guitar is an easy instrument to pick up and after getting lessons for a 2-ish year I can say proudly I’m not bad :)
stick to it, the first month sucks – but if you like music as much as I do, you’ll go far
its a skill for life, a hobby, something to talk about with other guitarists/musicians
do it! its worth it :]
now I wish I didn’t give up piano so quickly (when I was young)
learning to play major & minor chords on a piano atm :)

Too little ambition can kill this goal. Practise is everything and with the right attitude older people can learn the guitar as well. (It’s not true that you have to start as a kid or else any attempt will be futile). But what gets me is the attitude. I’m too lazy and only know a couple of basic medolies.
