I would like to change career and work with kids, i would like to volunteer first to see if I am good in that. I would like to feel useful and spend my time helping kids. I think I could be good. my first step is volunteer in a school. then from there I will decide if going back to school and change completely my job.
How to work with kids
How I did it: Years ago, I started off volunteering to see if I really had what it took to work with children. My performance, dedication, and creativity landed me a job. From there, I've worked my way through to Chief Operating Officer. I ALWAYS suggest people try volunteering to explore and enter a new field.
Lessons & tips: Working with children responsibly requires that you continuously consider how every action will affect your young admirers. One area that I feel has been a continuous source of pain is that of favoritism. Many of my employees find it very easy to warm up to most of the young ones but there is inevitably the one child with the odd behaviors, running nose, dirty clothes that you find yourself unable to warm up to. I always advise my workers, if you cannot hug ALL the children, then don't hug any of them. It is human nature to find it difficult to deal with certain types but this becomes painfully obvious to the one child who is not embraced equally. The only way to keep all things even keeled is to treat everyone equally, even if that means bringing everything back a peg or two for everyone.

Working with children is very complex and rewarding. I’ve been in youth programming for over 12 years and am currently the COO for a Boys & Girls Club.
If you’ve no experience, I suggest you volunteer first. Not only does this give you front line exposure to the work, rewards and challenges, but it also gets you in the door of potential employers or at least references.
I also suggest volunteering because children do get attached and take things very personal. Not understanding the details, separations are often taken personally. If it is understood from the beginning that you are only there for a little while, then they know leaving has nothing to do with them, just part of the plan. Then, if you do stay, it is a pleasant surprise. One might say, “what’s different about leaving after a short stint versus leaving for another job eventually?” Most likely, if you are employed for the long-term, you children will outgrow the program you are working on before you would leave. In other words, they are more likely to say the goodbye instead of you.
Good luck! The children always need someone who wants to be with them!

I would LOVE to work with kids one day.. Maybe be a first grade teacher.. Or work at ah daycare. =]
so i work with the kids at my church and i simply cannot think of a better thing to do! i mean working with kids is great, but when you’re telling them about God’s love for them as well, what could be better?
My current job involves me photographing children. The job is exhausting, but the eight hours I work per shift makes me forget about all my worries. Working with children sort of forces you to not take yourself too seriously.
I love little kids. I want lots of em! I help out every summer at Vacation Bible School at my church. lol Their adorable and (almost!) all of them are so sweet. I was in a show yesterday and a little girl asked me for my autograph it was soooooo cute!
I’ve worked in elementary school as a reading tutor, and volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club. It was an extremely enriching experience. Go for it!
