Done. 3 years ago

I’m actually at my parents’ house now – more than halfway to Syracuse! Obviously, everything is packed up. Somehow I managed to mail all of my books, and fit mostly everything into my car. A few things were left behind, but those will be sent for eventually – it’s nothing crucial.

Now I get to UNpack everything. Just as chaotic, but a little more fun.

Holy moly cannoli... 3 years ago

I am so close to being done with this.

Sold off the bookshelf – giving away the mattress/box springs. Almost everything that can be put into boxes is in boxes – the rest is loose or in bags.

Just cleaned out all of my work files. Getting down to the wire…

Sad to go, excited to be so close to leaving!!!!!!!!!!!

HUGE amount of progess this weekend. 3 years ago

It’s about time, too, since I’m leaving a week from today!

My room is mostly empty of the things I’m taking – there’s still furniture there, but it will be sold off (hopefully). I packed a suitcase of clothes for the next few weeks and packed the rest of my clothes in garbage bags (the better to stuff them in the empty spots). Books = all packed up. Kitchen stuff = mostly packed up.

I have some pictures to take down, and some other little random things to take care of, but overall, I’m pretty well packed. That is, items are packed into bags/boxes – I can’t really pack my car until this coming weekend. I really hope it all fits!

Books are mostly packed. 3 years ago

There are a few stragglers (I ran out of boxes really quickly), I’m going to try to take care of them tonight. I’m debating whether I should ship them or not. Maybe some of them. Book mail rate is cheap, but I have a lot of heavy books! I wish I had a scale so I could determine whether it would be best to ship or pack them…

I also need to go through my clothing and get rid of a LOT of stuff. Tons of t-shirts that I don’t wear, or that are worn out. Jeans I don’t love. Sweaters I don’t really like. Etc. Bleah. I hate throwing out clothing, I guess I always feel like I might run out of stuff to wear. Which is dumb. I have tons of clothes I never wear. They need to go.

Jettisoned a number of pairs of shoes I don’t wear any longer. It was nice to get that done…

HA! (wishful thinking) 3 years ago

Can’t very well pack books if you don’t have the proper boxes…and just did not feel like going through my clothes…

I did pack up most of my old journals. Also went through a drawer or two and threw out a lot of old bulk herbs and seeds (wasteful, I know, but they were old enough to not be that useful anymore).

Need to check with the grocery store and see if they have any boxes to give away…

Found out a lot more about where I'll be living... 3 years ago

...and decided not to take much furniture (if any) along with me.

So I’m going to start packing stuff up. I’ve got a month until I move, and I’m not taking any time off of work specifically to pack. This will be a weekend/evenings endeavor, easier now that I don’t have any more band gigs.

This weekend, I plan to pack up all the books on my shelves. I will also go through all of my clothes and throw out or donate everything superfluous. Old undies, this means YOU.

And move. 3 years ago

Not until August. I need to figure out where I’m living (furnished? unfurnished?) and what kind of moving expenses I can afford before I decide what’s going with me and what’s staying/being donated.

I can start, though, by throwing out things I KNOW I will not need/want. Beginning with the clothes closet.

hooray! we are totally out of the old place. now we just need to unpack and find places for everything at the new house.

Done 3 years ago

I ended up sending another two boxes home. Most of the stuff people wanted got picked up, and I found new homes for the rest. I ended up carrying more stuff onto the plane thn I would have preferred, but at least it is all packed up, and I am on my way home. :-)
