One night while fighting a bout of insomnia, I turned on the television to find an infomercial for alpacas. Llamas? I thought, but no, alpacas. THE WAVE OF THE FUTURE! The infomerical featured a plethora of people – from down-home farm families to former-CEOS of Fortune 500 companies, all shouting the praises of alpaca farming. Happily, the alpacas romp through the fields, unaffected by the outerworld, doing their alpaca-y thing. By the end of the program I was sold! I would leave my corporate job for the challenge and joys of alpaca farming …. OR ….. I would visit an alpaca farm and NOT become a farmer. Probably the latter.
It seems every alpaca farmer encourages people to visit their farms to experience alpacas firsthand and to learn more about alpaca farming.
I hope this isn’t like going to “listen to a presentation on time shares.”
