redstar is off to Chicago
mintchip is trying to get back on track!
When I was in Denver, there were wildfires in Malibu (as well as the rest of So Cal) We had a close call about 4 years ago and it made me realize we really need to be prepared. Initially I had wanted to make an earthquake kit, but really it we need to be prepared for anything.
I went to Target and bought a first aid kit, glow sticks, some instant hot and cold packs, duct tape, and germ wipes. My boyfriend added a pair of work gloves, flashlight with batteries, water, swiss army knife (can-opener/scissors/etc). We still have a few items to add. We put it all together in a backpack and put it in an accessable cupboard in our laundry room. He also mounted some flashlights in there. (it’s a good spot I know, because I was able to feel my way there in the dark to retrieve a flashlight once when the power went out.)
Another thing that I did was put together ziplocks of tolietries for my and my boyfriend that are going to go in little duffles with a change of clothes (for in case of a fire evacuation) I also made an evacuation bag for our dog, Domino, with food, a blanket and her gulpy (waterbottle for dogs).
I still need to take polaroids and inventory our house for insurance purposes, and make sure we have the documents we need, if we have a short time to evacuate.
