become better at photography

I made lesson plans for myself this fall. I am taking two self taught photography classes. One of them is focusing on proper exposure and lighting. The other class is focusing on the idea of landscape, not only in terms of land but also of architecture and people. I have been learning a lot and I feel really blessed. Sometimes I think about I would like to go back to school for photography, but that just doesn’t seem like a viable option. Instead I’m just teaching myself. Who says it can’t be done?

I’ve been trying to shoot daily. I purchased a used Canon 30D a couple of weeks ago and I have been primarily shooting with that. My husband and I will hopefully be getting a decent scanner soon which will encourage me to shoot more slides. Velvia is such a dream to me!

I shot some of my sister-in-law’s senior pictures last night. We lost daylight and we’re going to get together again to get some railroad shots that we both want. I really want field shots too, whether I do them with her, someone else, or both.

Sometimes I get discouraged about photography. I question how far I can go with it…if I’ll ever be good enough…ever reach whatever goal I’m supposed to be reaching for, but truly as long as I’m inspired to shoot that is what I am going to strive for.

I can’t believe how God has been working this in my life lately. He has been opening so many doors. I feel so honored and blessed and most of all motivated to just keep working hard at my photographic pursuits.

My husband and I photographed our friends’ wedding a few weeks ago. I’m still working on the post processing for all of the images. I hope they like them! :)

I was pretty stressed out yesterday. I now have four twin packs of 600 film. That’s all the money I’m willing to part with for now. I’ll need to learn to let go eventually. At least 35mm and 120 is still around, at least for today!

I also got a Polarizer filter from my parents for my 35mm. Woot!

I got a new camera from my future in-laws! It’s a Lubitel 166B and they are no longer being made. It’s a TLR medium format camera and it is neat! Weee!

I get to take a studio photography course this spring. We’ll be working with large format cameras which is something I’ve never done before. I’m excited!
