Not feasible. 2 years ago

I’ve talked to my pal who is an experienced runner down here in Florida, and her exact words were: “Trail running in Fla. LOL. You’re funny. Have you forgotten where you are? The only trails you’ll find around here are in the marshland and you’ll definitely break a speed record running from the alligators and pythons.”

My other pals, who do a lot of outdoor activities, said the trails at Markham Park are closed to anyone not on a bike and that they’ll actually kick you out if they see you running through there. They have someone posted on the trails to keep runners out. Personally, I can’t stand the whole disgusting spandex nastiness, street-hogging mentality of the cycling people down here, and this just seems like an extension of that. So I guess I’m going to ride the trails and save my New Balance for race days.

I want to start! But where? 2 years ago

I went on a nice little jog at the beach today, but I find nothing more exhilarating than running through the woods over tree branches and through mud. I’m a little bit crazy, but I totally miss that kind of thing. I am planning on doing some running at some of my favorite spots while I’m in western New York next week, but where to run here in South Florida? Apparently Markham Park has some kind of trails, but I’ve been told they were for mountain bikes. I’ve been meaning to go check it out, but haven’t yet. My MR790’s are waiting, brand new in the box…

Yeesh, I'm giving up on a lot of stuff today... 3 years ago

...I’m in a mood, perhaps :-)

But really, this one’s off cuz I need new shoes to do it. Furthermore I have literally been all around my island (Montreal, pretty huge) and can’t find a long enough trail in a safe enough place that is close enough to home (so that I can get back to work quickly).

Mind you, I have WIFI but I’ve yet to find a trail that’ll let me do cross-country and still be accessible by Internet.

Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait... 3 years ago

...I’m literally with my nose pressed against the patio doors checking to see if the snow has melting in the past, ohh, two minutes. I live in Canada, you see, and this stuff will not go away for another 8 weeks at least.

But I know that I’m really excited about this cuz I’ve thought about building a web site about it! That’s how all my web sites start… a crazy, insane interest in something. It gives me an excuse to interview experts in the field and share my passion.

Yikes, I think I need more meaningful social interaction

...which is a concern for most runners. I already have to wear a brace and I’m not trying to bust up my knee.

Trail running will also be good if I decide to do a 100-mile ultra-marathon race. Read about it in Runner’s World for the first time last month.

Apparently, about 80 miles in, you start to hallucinate.

How cool is that?

Seriously, though, I think the imagery you’d see during such hallucinations would be a door to your subconscious.

And, yes, I suppose drugs would do the same thing for a lot less stress. Alas, I’ve never done the drug thing (a large portion of that is because I don’t know what a real “dealer” looks like. On TV they wear really long trench coats and sunglasses. Oh and they whisper a lot.)
