I need first to find a computer that can handle it. :)

I’m still in transition. I installed Ubuntu on a PC that used to have Windows XP. I’ve learned the hard way that Ubuntu comes with a learning curve.
Another goal on my list is to find another computer. Maybe, on that system, I’ll partition and install both Windows and Ubuntu. A lot of my hardware came only with Windows drivers. :(
I’m tagging this as short term … expect to do it within the next few years …
let’s see.
Actually if it’s worth it or not depends on what you’re using your PC/MAC for. If you’re a gamer Linux is probably still not the right OS for you.
But since I only play console games I had no problem with moving away from Windows completely in 2001. Since then I only look back when there is a new game that I’m interested in. But then I remember after just a few seconds why I’ve actually stopped playing PC-games :P I simply can’t afford having to update my hardware every year instead of every 3 or 4 years with console gaming.
I also think that you get easier into coding in an environment where you can simply “code” everything. At least this was a main motivation for me learning (or at least trying to learn) every programming language I learn about _
i had debian-only masheens for about three years, and i think that it’s about as warping as being in any other homogenous environment. being able to compare approaches and ideas is healthy to any platform. move over, just not completely.
Problem number one: My soundcard
Ok so I have been known to record the odd peice or so and now I am faced with moving over to the sound editors and what nots from linux. This doesn’t bother me but losing the functionality of my $1200 sound card from creamware really does. Somehow I severely doubt I am going to be able to find anyone able to help with this situation.
Problem two: Itunes
Ok so I am thoroughly addicted to itunes. Sorry I just can’t help it. They easily have the best tunes out there. I have seen the packages that allow you to run itunes under linux but no offense they are slow as christmas and I really don’t see why i should have to pay for it just to run linux.
All in all I think I need to move over to mac. I really don’t see linux as being a reasonable alternative yet. Really guys stop bickering over the core OS and start getting the end user apps together.
