How to brew my own root beer
How I did it: I like Zataran's Root Beer Extract. Buy some.
1 tbsp this
1 cup sugar
1 tsp yeast (active dry)
2 liters water
Dissolve sugar and yeast in 1 liter water. Add second liter water and extract. Leave at room temperature for two days or so. Refrigerate for 24 hours. Enjoy.
Lessons & tips: For a drier taste (more beer, less root), leave at room temperature for three days. For a sweeter taste (more root, less beer), stick to the two days. Don't use yeast for bread machines.
Resources: Zatarans. Also, I suggest champagne yeast and not baker's yeast.
