I barely watch my television anymore and just watch things on my computer. It saves a lot of money, I don’t have to waste time with commercials, everything is on demand, I can pause or come back and watch things later, I can watch things multiple times, and I have access to so many movies and shows that I didn’t have on cable…it’s perfect! 8 months ago

Just an update. 3 days after I canceled my cable I got a call from the company offering me free cable for 6 months. Trying to suck me back in.
Anyways it worked, I decided since it’s free I might as well say yes. You can bet the day before the 6 months ends I will be back in their office cancelling it again! I am going to mark that on my calendar. It’s super basic cable so there are only 20 channels and it’s mostly crap so I have only had it on twice! Honestly, I’m happier without it. 14 months ago

Now that our contract with the Fios company has reached its two-year mark, the Man called up and canceled our cable and landline. We rarely use the cable anymore now that I’m employed full-time (though I watched a LOT of TV during the year I was unemployed), and we have NEVER used the landline. Didn’t even have a phone plugged into the jack.
So now we pay $54 per month instead of $110-something. Hooray!
Next step: call the gym and suspend our membership till summer, when we will both use it again… 14 months ago

Done! I took care of business yesterday as it was the last day of my special package deal. The cable is gone! I have lived with TV all my life, and it’s strange not having it anymore. I find that I still have an automatic response to reach for the remote and turn on some garbage show just for background noise. I noticed even the constant hum of the PVR box is gone. It is quiet and peaceful now. If I want to watch a show or movie I have Netflix.
On a sidenote- I also finally got my wireless internet fixed (they gave me a new modem). Bonus! 14 months ago

I talked to Shaw today. I have 10 more days of my current deal. Then I will return this PVR to them and probably cancel my TV, but keep my internet. Internet is $45/month, internet & TV is $60/month.
It’s only $15 but I still want to cancel and live TV free for a while. There is always Netflix and movie rental 1 block away from me when I’m in the mood for a movie. 15 months ago
