Yesterday I competed in my first tournament. I won one match and lost the rest but I’m glad to have had the experience.

Today I trained for four hours straight! First, Fundamentals class, then Advanced, then sparring for an hour, then Fundamentals again.

In the first class the black belt instructor was there so I thought I’d finally get a promotion but I didn’t. Whatever, I figured they probably weren’t doing promotions that day.

By the last class when we’re getting ready to wrap up, they promote me so I am now white belt, second stripe.

Pretty stoked about that. It’s going great!

I’m taking a week off, but I can’t wait to get back here and train some more :)

Kiaaaaa!!! 9 months ago

Last week I went to five classes. I’m also studying a video and taking notes after every class then reviewing them before classes.

I’m serious about learning BJJ!

This week I showed up late for class as they were handing out belt stripes. I knew I would’ve got my second stripe, which I’ve been long overdue for, but then I figured I don’t that much as long as I keep improving.

I’ll be training throughout the next week, but I won’t be at any of the classes with the belt stripe awards because I have to work evenings.

I’m keeping in mind to focus on the process, not the result.

Training has been fairly consistent. Now it just needs to stay that way.

I’ve found that any extended breaks in training bring me back to square one and I’m trying to relearn everything.

Also, I bought all the necessary equipment: mouth guard, knee pads, head gear, and the ever-so-crucial jock strap. Having more protection has really helped to avoid discouragement from injuries.

Although I have broken a finger and my nose, as well as a bunch of random nuisances, the equipment is helping and the injuries are bearable.

First day! 17 months ago

I rolled around and it was fun.

Right now I’m a bit undecided if I want to commit. Time is mostly the issue—I feel like I’ve been piling on all these possibilities (thanks 43things!) and there’s only so much time in a week.

I’m going to sleep on it.

My husband does BJJ with Alliance, and is always trying out new submissions on me. I want to eventually do jiu jitsu myself as well, I just have to wait until we have more cash to throw around :)

Anything called a revolution in martial arts is worth looking at i guess. No clubs round redditch though
