...and i biked to and from work. this isn’t very impressive as it wasn’t snowing or under 10 degrees F. instead, it was a balmy 50 or so. i’ve never biked so long against the wind though—16 mph of wind is a force to be reckoned with, but the way home was so much better.
I did the math, and from the point I made this goal, I said, bike to work 1 day per week, weather permitting. I really only averaged .85 days per week during the peak season, but I think if I factor in rainy days and vacations and whatnot, I met this goal.
The work along treks this year came out to about 310 miles of bicycling or about 15 gallons of gasoline I didn’t use this year. Hurray!

this weekend, i biked deep into another county to visit some friends and go to a biker bar where a friend played drums. i slept in north ridgeville and sauntered back on sunday. it was beautiful all around. it was about 60 miles, from city to suburbs to corn fields and back.
maybe it is cheating, but i’m counting this is the equivalent of 5 bikes rides to the office and back. i probably took about 3 gallons of petroleum demand out of the market and gave myself a relaxing car-free weekend.

i had planned to bike to north ridgeville again, but outside of berea, my pedal broke. so many ball bearings! what a mess. pedaling with one pedal is no fun. now it is fixed and i’ll try again.

i rode my bike to work THREE times this week. over the weekend, i biked even more and went to the edge of the county and entered the hinterlands of north ridgeville.
lately, i haven’t spotted the family of woodchucks around w. 90th. i hope they’re ok.

i road to work twice this week because it has been so pleasant—if not for my need to wear suits on a few of these days, i would have biked to work every day. i’m approaching this weekly goal.
i didn’t see the woodchucks around 90th and detroit though.

So, I picked the hottest most humid oppressive day of the summer and biked to work. Thank god I had change of clothes at work and some barley iced tea.
On the way to work, I saw:
the usual groundhog family, a monk (in alb), and made a new bicyclist friend.

the temperature was pleasant so i opted to bike to work again. i frightened the family of woodchucks that i seem to encounter regularly on detroit ave around w. 100th or so and they scurried away.
the humidity does produce a bit more perspiration, i think either i need to slow it down or hide a set of clothes to change into at work.

today, i returned to biking to work again. i encountered:
1. a groundhog around the 100 block of detroit avenue. (run little guy, run!)
2. a man in a city of cleveland water vehicle who honked menacingly at me. he had a mustache. beware!
3. a former co-worker at a coffeeshop who i chatted with for awhile.
4. several drops of rain. fortunately, i beat the deluge.

i was really good at doing this in the spring, but then i got too busy or had to wear suits. suits and bikes don’t mix well.
then, my rims got bent, brakes broke, etc, etc… this weekend i got it all fixed. and i should be back on top of things as of tomorrow. hurray!
