Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Lost WayfarerWatching Kung Fu Panda 2 in French

October 4, 2012

Last night I was trying to keep my mind off of particular things. I wasn’t doing a good job of it. Still, I thought it would be funny to watch Kung Fu Panda 2 in French by turning the closed caption option from English to French.

I have been wanting to learn French and I have learned a lot of words over the years from my French speaking Cousin, Denis. So I thought it was another way to learn by the way of Osmosis.

It was a bit fun. :o) 2 years ago

Lost WayfarerI bought a baby doll!

April 24, 2012

When I was at the Salvation Army looking for a book, I went by the toy section to see what kind of baby dolls they had. I thought if one enticed me, I might get one.

I am kind of picky when it comes to what I like. There were dozens of baby dolls, but none of them amused me at all. Then I saw it, it was the back and I grabbed it and looked at it. Something within me felt close to this doll. It took me a minute to realize why. It was a type of baby doll I would have had when I was younger. I looked at the back of the neck to see that it was manufactured in 1982. It was the type of baby doll that kind of lasts over time. Its hair was matted and short in areas. It had a cute little onesie on. It was only 49 cents, so I bought it.

I namely bought it to take to lunch on May 2, for Take a Baby to Lunch Day. I know it seems silly, but that is the reason why I am going to do it. Because it is just pointlessly silly, and that can be loads of fun!

I thought I might crochet a little something for it, maybe even making a little quilt for it and then give it to the Cowboy’s girls or some other little girl that is lacking toys.

This is going to be fun. Pointless, yet so very fun! 2 years ago

Lost WayfarerDancing while blowing bubbles with the Cowboy's little daughter, S.

April 21, 2012

Dancing while blowing bubbles with the Cowboy’s little daughter, S.

I was taking my tires out of the trunk of my car, when I spied the bottle of bubbles. It was the one reason, why I left them in there. I grabbed them and opened them up. It was a bit breezy, so I held the wand to the air and the gently breeze created tons of bubbles for me, as I keep dipping it in the liquid. S. was dancing around trying to catch them, as I danced around the grass, holding the wet wand high and re-dipping it when it was exhausted of its magically liquid. We could have done this for a good half and hour, but the Cowboy was getting the bikes ready to ride, so I put them up. I can’t wait to do that again with both of the girls. 2 years ago

Lost WayfarerBlowing Dandelion clocks into the wind!

April 19, 2012

As I was walking out to my car to go to work (as I have been leaving about 45 minutes to 30 minutes earlier then I have to), I picked a dandelion that went to seed. I know that many people call them Dandelion Clocks. Well, I picked it and thought about all the people in my life: My Poppa, my mother, my siblings, the Cowboy and his girls and I thought about all the wishes they might have, and I blew. I hoped that as the little parachutes of seeds danced off into the air, that like those high flying things, my loved one’s dreams and aspirations would fly and take off too.

It was a bit of lovely, joyful fun, regardless that it was also pointless. It didn’t matter, because it made me smile. 2 years ago

Lost WayfarerFun with a new travel mascot, Bickle!

April 14, 2012

I was creating and having fun making my travel mascot. It took me about 6 hours to do it. I shared my new creation with someone and she asked me why I would make a travel mascot. I told the person there was no reason, it was just all out of fun. I told her that it just would make going and exploring new places more fun, especially when I am alone. She then said “It sounds like it would be fun.”

I made my little travel mascot special. I found a pattern and I crocheted him myself. I made special touches to him, by stuffing him with a little red felt heart and sewing little brown beads for eyes and embroidering a little pink nose and mouth.

When he was all down and stuffed, I made a little red felt scarf for him and took him to Subway. He is first traveling place. I put a seat belt on him and took several pictures of him that day. It was very fun and made me feel kind of silly.

I guess silliness is all part of having a little bit of pointless fun. 2 years ago

Lost WayfarerMaking chalk faces on the porch, along with the other kids

April 7, 2012

When I was with the Cowboy over at this friend’s house, there was a bunch of colored chalk laying around on the porch. The kids were milling around playing, so I picked up a piece and made a series of smiley faces close to where the children had made various drawings. I have to say that it felt very good playing with chalk. I had forgotten how much fun chalk could be. I will have to buy some for more fun during the Spring and Summer season.

Smiley faces all around for having a bit of pointless fun! 2 years ago

Lost WayfarerI am blowing bubbles once again!

April 6, 2012

While I was at Wal-mart getting my oil changed in my car, I picked up a big bottle of Bubbles, as my bubbles at home were losing their soapy-ness or something. (I might have added some dish soap or something to them in the past and now they don’t want to make bubbles as much as they used to)

So after I got my car cleaned out and ready for my weekend trip to see the Cowboy (that meant mostly loading up my mountain bike in car) I took out my new batch of bubbles and tried them out. The wind was slightly blowing so it was lovely to watch the bubbles fly off with the wind.

When I was done, I packed the bottle of bubbles in my trunk of my car, as I might used them again during the weekend. 2 years ago

Lost WayfarerMaking Tax Time fun!

April 5, 2012

Now, everyone (or almost everyone) has to do their taxes, but “I” on the other hand do my taxes with smiley faces! Tax season is never a happy time for a lot of people. And for me it isn’t the great either, because I never get a lot of money back. So to counteract, any unpleasant feeling I might have about doing my taxes, I decided to decorate the envelope in which my taxes were in. I was a little bit limited with the media I could use, so I had to be creative about it.

I drew little designs with my highlighters and a pen. I stuck a “Thanks for Shopping at Kroger” sticker as well as a “Plaintiff’s Exhibit” sticker (which had a mass of little smile faces on the blank line) on the envelope. I cut out a brightly colored (out of Hot pink and Teal blue Post-It notes) snowflake and taped it to the back of the envelope.

When I was done, I had two brightly colored and happy little envelopes. It made me feel good to decorate something so drab and boring. I had so much fun doing it, I think I might make it a habit to do that every year.

I just hope it brightened someone’s day that sees it. It is just a part of me having a bit of pointless fun!

Lost WayfarerBubbly fun!

April 3, 2012

I was feeling a bit silly today. Feeling awfully good, a matter of fact. I have to say that I haven’t felt so content with my life in a long time. So I took out my bottle of bubbles (which I usually only use in special occasions and holidays) and blew a couple of bubbles. Some of them were a bit weak (I think the container is a bit old, I have had them for at least 6 or 7 years ) but the ones that did fly were beautiful in the sunlight.

It was simple, yet very enjoyable. I will have to remember to buy a couple more so when I see the Cowboy and his girls, we can blow bubbles together. I am sure they will love doing that!

Just a bit of silly fun that was enjoyable. I really love doing this goal. It makes my life so much happier. 2 years ago

Lost WayfarerI was Baaaaaaaaad! LOL

April 2, 2012

I was talking to the Cowboy (via text) and he was having a rough day. It was about things that I can’t really help him on, yet I felt compelled to do something, as I am very attached to him. I have told him jokes in the past, but I didn’t think that it would pull it off, but I really needed something to make him forget about his worries for a while and smile.

Then I got this wacky idea in my head and before I could really think much about it, I said.

“Try to smile a little if you can. . .because I am naked”

Okay, I sent this to him, knowing that I AM AT WORK. I couldn’t help but laugh when I sent it. I thought it would have been a good April Fool’s Joke, that would get his attention.

Well, his response back was “LOL, Now that IS a reason to smile!” I then reminded him that I was at work, and I couldn’t be naked, of course. It was a late April Fool’s joke. He just said that he knew that, but it made him smile never the less.

On a positive note, at the end of the day I asked him to tell me one positive thing that happened to him today. His response was: “Um…I thought of you nekkid :) Does that count?” All I could do is laugh, because the joke to make him smile, was one that made his whole day better. LOL

Just a bit of “dirty” yet smile-worthy-to-a-Cowboy, pointless fun. :oP 2 years ago

Lost WayfarerMoses supposes his toeses are Roses

March 31, 2012

I got silly as I was cleaning house. I was listening to one of my favorite movies “Singing in the rain” and I found myself wanting to “hoof” it around the house more, and even sing out loud especially when my favorite song “Moses supposes” I wouldn’t help but stop and watch it and then rewind it and dance my own little dance.

“Moses supposes his toeses are Roses,
But Moses supposes Erroneously,
Moses he knowses his toeses aren’t roses,
As Moses supposes his toeses to be!

Moses supposes his toeses are Roses,
But Moses supposes Erroneously,
A mose is a mose!
A rose is a rose!
A toes is a toes!
Hooptie doodie doodle

Moses supposes his toeses are Roses,
But Moses supposes Erroneously,
For Moses he knowses his toeses arent roses,
As Moses supposes his toeses to be!

(Moses supposes his toeses are roses)
(Moses supposes erroneously)
(Moses supposes his toeses are roses)

As Moses supposes his toeses to be!
A Rose is a rose is a rose is a rose is
A rose is what Moses supposes his toes is
Couldn’t be a lily or a daphi daphi dilli
It’s gotta be a rose cuz it rhymes with mose!

(Dance Sequence)

I forgot how inspiring and motivating a simple movie like that can be. I forgot how much fun and laughter I had singing along with it as well as dancing.

Now, I want to learn how to tap dance. LOL2 years ago

Lost WayfarerColoring is silly, but fun!

March 28, 2012

Crayons! I grabbed my coloring book and crayons and started coloring whiling listening to the TV and relaxing. I sent a text message to the Cowboy to see what he was doing. He said he was putting the girls down for bed. I told him I was coloring. He just laughed and said I was silly. I told him, I know, but it was relaxing and fun.

I colored one whole page and dated it (as it is part of my 43Things goal: Color an entire coloring book) and started on another page, until I got tired.

I know that some adults think that coloring is just a child project, but remember, most children are not stressed as we are. And they color all the time. I believe that coloring is relaxation activity that people need to try out. It is just part of having some pointless fun. 2 years ago

Lost WayfarerSmile, smile, and Smile: Make them wonder why you are.

March 26, 2012

I smiled nice and big where ever I went and whoever I greeted. I think it made people think, when I was grinning like Cheshire cat. It was kind of hilarious at times, that I wanted to just start laughing out loud. I think I had more fun doing this, because it made people really think, but I didn’t care. I was enjoying the pointless fun of smile as big as I wanted and everywhere I went.

What glorious fun!! 2 years ago

Lost WayfarerNaming my plants, which I will eat in the future. CREEPY yet fun

March 25, 2012

I was having a slow day and was having a hard time finding a little of pointless fun until I started transplanting some of my little lettuce seedlings. I started naming them. Real funny and outrageous names like Periwinkle Smith and JuJu Butterbum so by the end of the day, all my plants had names. Sad thing is I probably won’t remember them, but still it was fun, to give my little stationary interests names.

Another sad thing is that I will end up eating a lot of them. Does that make me a cannibal now? LOL! It is creepy type of fun. 2 years ago

Lost WayfarerPigtails!!

March 24, 2012

Since I didn’t go many places and stuck around the house a lot of the day, I wore my hair in pigtails. It was kind of funny, because I would forget that I had them in, until I went into the bathroom to use the restroom. It was when I was washing my hands, I would end up laughing up a storm, when I realized I still had my hair in pigtails. LOL

It was fun! 2 years ago

Lost WayfarerLittle hidden smiles that you find when you least expect it! :o)

March 23, 2012

It was such a lovely day (nevertheless it was a little bit nippy out and sprinkled with rain) for me. I thought I would spread my cheer a bit by leaving a Post-it note with a smile face and words of encouragement where a person might see it. I thought about where I might be able to place it, when I found the perfect place. Outside the mailbox, due to the fact, many people rush around to mail things, so I thought it was a perfect place to leave a “smile” for someone that might need it the most, in such a busy pace.

It was kind of pointless for me to do, yet it was fun nevertheless. 2 years ago

Lost WayfarerHee hee hee.

March 22, 2012

I cut out and posted a Garfield cartoon in the elevator of the County Courthouse. Just to make someone smile, since so many people have to work indoors on this lovely Spring day.

I am really enjoying finding something pointlessly fun everyday. It really has become a goal!

Lost WayfarerI see Rich Uncle Pennybags!

March 21, 2012

I had a little meeting with one of my writing friends from NanKnights, S. And we met at the Harding Memorial. We sat in the grass and talked about various things: Our novels, past adventures. It was lovely to sit and lie in the grass. We watched a foolish teenager harass a Canadian goose, which as you know, wasn’t going to back down. So there was a lot of scream and shrieking on the teenager’s side of it. We talked while I hunted for 4 leaf clovers again. We walked around taking pictures and got a lovely funny photograph of the Rich Uncle Pennybags from Monopoly game. A person was doing treasure hunt game at her work, so had to take a photograph of the figure in various places, which people would have to answer where they were taken. It was so very funny! My writing meet-up (in which very few of us write during the meet, when we do meet. ) was part of my pointless fun, as we didn’t do much but talk, and laugh while sitting in the grass and picking through the clover.

Great fun!

Lost WayfarerDouble the luck and fun!

March 20, 2012

Hunting for 4 leaf clovers in the growing grass at the park on the First Day of Spring. LOL. I had two people ask me if I was looking for mushrooms. I smiled and told them I was looking for 4 leaf clovers! I found one that looked looked funny because two of the leaves were stunted, yet it still was a 4 leaf clover! And then soon afterwards, I found another one that was just perfect. It was funny sitting in the grass, among the clover and looking for the little bit of luck.
