...12 and 1/2 years of riding submarines…
Do it the way I did – join the Navy!
Tink is pleased with her progress.
I did this as a “day trip” from the first Caribbean cruise I went on (off St. Thomas, if I recall correctly).
Various physical limitations render scuba diving impossible for me. I love snorkelling, though, because I’m fascinated by underwater “worlds.” The submarine dive was a nearly ideal way to experience a tour of the sea bottom. Huge windows gave onto the otherworldly beauty of the reef, and the tour guides provided lively educational commentary on what we were viewing.
We even saw a moray eel – one of the eeriest-looking creatures I’ve ever seen.
Although the tour wasn’t cheap, I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
I’m not talking about windowless metal cell tanks, I’m more looking for a sort of glass bubble from which I can marvel at dank fishes and sea turtles and such.
Did this in a 10-man submarine off the coast of Mauritius. The first thing the Captain did was to show the passangers the lever to pull if he dropped dead while we were submerged! Apparently the lever would ensure the vessel floated to the surface. We would then (according to him) escape through the hatch. Luckily an escape was not necessary.
The trip was great!
