"When it comes to singing, acting, dancing, speaking, or performing in front of people in general, beginning is the hardest part."
How I did it: I was a painfully shy girl in 5th grade yet I joined the choir anyway. While I attended every rehearsal, I never sang out, so no one could hear me. I took chorus again in 6th grade. There was a solo available, and no one in my class had the courage to sing in front of people, so I did. I got encouragement from my chorus teacher, and I gradually got better at singing in front of people.
Singing is something that can always make me happy. It's something that's always there for me to use to make myself feel better.
Lessons & tips: If you aren't so confident about your singing abilities, join a choir if you can... just search for choirs in your state or your church. If you're still in school, join the school choir or sing to a kind music teacher. Sing to people you're comfortable with. The best method is obviously taking voice lessons with a teacher, but you can also use information online.
If the reason you hasn't done this is because you have stage fright, I have the same problem. I'm taking high school drama, and I constantly ask myself why since my acting skills are just normal, and I feel sick from stage fright.... But what I've noticed is that the feeling of fright before performing in front of people is a lot worse than when you're actually doing it... especially when it's something you love. Remember that the more you do this, the easier it will be.
I also suggest learning public speaking since learning how to speak in front of lots of people is less intimidating than singing in front of people. Singing with another friend can help.

- If you're nervous, eat a banana! No, really, the potassium can help calm you down. There are other foods that can help you calm down like cottage cheese and grape juice. Experiment and find out what works best for you.
