I’ve been good so far today. I ate well and shredded two huge zucchini’s to make stuff with. I’m going to make a zucchini chocolate cake, mmmmmmmm. I figure it’s healthier because I’ll at least be getting a serving of vegetables with it, and I never put icing on. I froze the rest of the zucchini in 2 cup servings so I can make more cake later, and make some other loafs or something with it.
How to start eating healthier
How I did it: First I gave up soda as my "liquid diet" and replaced it with water. Soda is now a treat, not a necessity!
Next, I taught myself how to read food labels, both the nutritional facts AND the listed ingredients.
Then I started making simple steps, like substituting olive oil for butter/margarine/other oils, weighing and measuring my meals/snacks, forming balanced meals that keep me more full for longer (whole grains are a great choice for this!), having healthy snacks when I actually feel hungry (no more snacking because I am bored), etc.
I also joined SparkPeople.com. They helped me track all of my meals and snacks, as well as my water intake. I can easily keep track of my calorie, carb, fat, protein, and sodium intake. It helps me feel accountable and also to make better choices.
I reward myself for good eating habits and weight lost. I allow myself to have not-so-healthy foods as treats and for special occasions. Saying you can't have something you lover ever again because it is unhealthy is only going to make you want it more, which will make you binge on it later when you finally cave in. Don't fall for that trap! It only leads to guilt and heartbreak when you step on the scale.
Lessons & tips: - Start small. Don't make all your changes at once. You'll overwhelm yourself, and that is never good.
- Drink lots of water. Stuff like milk, juice, tea, coffee, and soda are all great... in moderation. If you drink any of the above more than you drink water, you need to make a serious change in your life.
- Reward yourself, for reasons I stated above.
- Track what you eat and really be honest with yourself.
- Buy yourself a set of measuring cups and spoons. This is very important. If you can afford it, also pick up a food scale that can give you measurements in both ounces and grams.
- Learn to read food labels. Don't just look at the nutritional guide, look at the listed ingredients.
- If the package lists a serving size, weigh/measure out that serving size and put the remainder of the package AWAY.

I am failing this one miserably! I was eating really well when I was out east for the summer, mostly because we went shopping once a week and I went out of my way to not buy junk. Since being home though, with things so stressful, I’ve been bad. I’m not eating regularly and I’m bouncing back and forth between healthy and crap. Example, yesterday I made Shrimp, Broccoli, Asparagus, Alfredo Linguini for dinner, today the only thing I had all day was pizza for dinner with a coke. I’m baaaaaad! I haven’t drank pop in months! I’m giving myself a little leeway though, because of how crappy things are going, and right now junk food is sadly my only joy during the day. It’s only going to last for the next week, then it’s over and I’m going to buckle down and actually eat food that is good for me and eat real meals at regular intervals. I don’t want to end up acting like I did in high school. I don’t need an eating disorder on top of all the other drama!
Think healthy thoughts!
I already do eat pretty healthy. No pop, not much sugar or junk food. I just want to keep going on this track, and work towards curbing some of the foods that I do eat that aren’t so good for me. I’m not going to deny myself foods that I do like, like pizza and stuff, but I want to change some of the the types. Instead of a Hawaiian pizza, maybe feta and chicken, something like that. One thing I will never be able to give up, Nibs (my only candy I eat), but I will cut back. ;)
Today I turned down junk food. First day since I got disqualified and I wanted to eat myself into depression and I turned down junk food. Three hips for me.
Today wasn’t the best day for this…McD’s, fettuccine alfredo w garlic bread, and ice cream w strawberries on top. So I made this list…what I want to know is, does it help? How has this website helped you achieve your goals?

I feel in order to improve your mind, you have to start with your body too…Sometimes when we don’t feel good physically it can affect us mentally, I have been off my dieting plan for a couple of years now, and I feel like it too, My goal is to eventually lose weight, but first I want to control my eating habits and what I intake and then start from there…..Then start a exercise program…
I posted this AGES ago, but feel like it’s never going to happen. We keep talking about it, but DOING it is another story.
sigh Why does it have to be so difficult?
I want to start eating healthier and making better decisions food wise. And to start exercising

...Ive been going back & forth…So might as well….stop doing it not good for me…not good
Why is food so good? And why is it always the fatty and bad foods for you that taste the best? :OP I always eat out and eat like shit. Wings, pizza, fries, you name it and I’m eating it.
Damn, wings are my weakness. Too damn good.
Let’s name some healthy foods that actually taste good…
1. Yogurt
2. Salad (it’s alright but definitely NOT a meal)
3. Fruit (raspberries, strawberries, nectarines, clementines, etc.) Bananas are alright too but they sometimes make me gag.
4. Cheese please! Mmmmm…
5. Chocolate Milk…. cum on it’s still MILK :OP
6. Chicken fajita’s – all the 4 major food groups in one delicious wrap. Meat, Veggies, Dairy and Grain!
Note to self: I should start making these with whole wheat wraps though. :S
7. Stir fry Mmmmmm
8. I don’t know if I’m naming anything healthy anymore :(
Food is just so damn delicious
