i don't like miss fairfax either! 12 months ago

wow, I sure read a lot yesterday! I quite quite like Emma’s character, though I must admit she is a bit of a snob, “condescending” herself to go to the Coles’. Harriet, despite being forgiveably innocent, can’t decide a single thing for herself.

As for the gentlemen, Mr Elton is just an annoying gold-digger. Mr Knightley seems proper and wise, though he is rather harsh and condescending towards Emma at times. I can’t help but be charmed by Mr Frank Churchill, by his manners and his tongue-in-cheek wit (though I suspect he must have some serious flaw that will be exposed in the plot to come). I do share in Emma and Frank’s suspicions of Miss Fairfax! I think we all know a Miss Fairfax, somebody whom we simply cannot bring ourselves to like, whether it be because we envy them, or because we just can’t comprehend them.

i recently got a cold so yesterday I was in bed for hours, either sleeping or reading Emma. I’m up to chapter 18- yay! I must say, Emma is quite an amusing character- witty but not wise, fanciful but not frivolous, and rather stubborn when it comes to arguing her own viewpoint!

... so I began reading the first chapter a few nights ago. I really hope to keep a regular reading time so that I don’t slack off and forget the plot and the book ends up on my list of half-finished books again…

I just finished this book two days ago for my AP English 4 class. Took me almost all summer, but it’s done. As someone who barely got through Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, if I got through at all this book is better watched than read. The story is not that bad, a little luguna beachish in late england, but not bad.For every one who is reading this book or is planning to read this book don’t, just give up now. Put Emma back on the shelf and rent the movie for free at the library.

P.S.- I knew Emma was perfect for Knightley from the start...call it female intuition

have read about 5 chapters and i listen to a audio tape version before the lecture i had on it a few weeks ago. i wrote my final essay for the module today so i have no real reason to read it now but i would like to actually read it! i also have seen the ITV adaptation so i do know the story but i wouldn’t feel right if i didn’t read it all at some point.
