Last summer at the beach, I heard a man calling for help out in the water farther out than where I was swimming with my family. He had been pulled out by the rip tide and was panicking. I swam out to help him and was able to keep him afloat until I could call one of the guys surfing over to help us. With their help we got back to shore and saved him from drowning. Thinking back on it, if the surfers hadn’t come, I would have drowned with him as he was dragging me down, but I wouldn’t have done anything differently.
Try to be prepared to help people when they need it, but know your boundaries. I was never officially trained in life guarding, but had learned a lot from a friend of mine that was a life guard. I’m also a strong swimmer. 3 years ago
