Isak and I were at the library recently, and seemingly out of thin air he handed me a copy of the audio book version of The Drift by John Ridley, saying it would be good for me. I took a peek at the back & it looked interesting, so I checked it out.
The last time I listened to an audio book was as a kid driving across the country in a wood panel station wagon with my family. My brother and I would take turns listening to stories on our dad’s big tape recorder (with mutantly large earphones). I remember listening to both The Secret Garden and The Witches of Worm over and over again as the miles flew past.
I’ve really been enjoying listening to this before bed or on the portable cd player when I’m in the tub or doing dishes, and it’s perfect for when I can’t sleep but I’m too tired to focus on a page.
It’s interesting and dark. Violent but with a sharp wit. Definitely not for kids in the way-back. I hope I can get through all 9 cds before I have to return it. I’ve never even bothered to look in the audio books section… maybe now I will.

Paul Coelho’s, The Alchemist, (on audible.com). Beautifully read and an incredibly rich story.

...downloaded Paul Coelho’s, The Alchemist, from iTunes, which happens to be free at this time. It is extremely rare for me to “read” a novel, preferring non-fiction, and also printed books. So, the content and the medium will be different for me. The book is about someone who follows his dream, so it could be inspirational. We shall see…

bec012 is waiting on her results
I purchased the aforementioned audiobook on Itunes and it was great! The reader had an emotionally charged voice and read the book with feeling, which greatly enhanced the listening experience. I Am Legend was excellent; the book blows the film out of the water.

It is nice when a good dramatization is done. I have a BBC production of Lord of the Rings on CD and I have really enjoyed listening to it on trips or driving back and forth to work.

I have a 35 minute commute in the morning and afternoon, and have found audio books to be a great way to pass the time.
For those who say this isn’t really reading, I say that as long as I’m enjoying a book, it doesn’t matter how I take it in.

back and forth to work. You can’t always be on the phone either. So this is a great way to get some reading done.

pick some random book on tape and listen to it. Go to the library they have the best books on tape. I personally like James Patterson and Ridely Pierson. Good detective books. Hint. If you don’t like the reader (you will know what this is when you listen to one), stop the tape and pick another book, if it is your first book.
