of EVERYTHING. I pour too much cereal, break off to much toilet paper, put too much cheese on my sandwich, drink too much alcohol, use too much margarine, etc.

drying closets and cooling cabinets. A drying closet is used instead of a dryer, and a cooling cabinet is an old-fashioned idea for keeping foods cool. Both would reduce the amount of electricity that is used.
This kind of reduction appeals to me, relatively low cost, easy to use and maintain, and not replacing one high tech item with another high tech item.
Also, although I don’t remember which book I saw it in, somewhere I had Edwardian? Victorian? plans for a “cold box” to be used in winter. This was an insulated zinc lined box that was put into a doublehung window, using the weather outside to cool whatever was in the box. Again, relatively simple, using what’s there, etc.
