Hi,
I am looking for a fiction writing group for motivation, support and publishing ideas. I can’t meet on Thursday evenings…any other time is fine.

Hey, I’m planning on moving to Seattle soon and want to find a writer’s group. I’m in my twenties. Any suggestions?

Writers' Group Needed 2 years ago

So, I need a writers’ group. Desperately. Writing fiction is very important to me, but I can’t seem to concentrate on it the way I used to. The friends and acquaintances I had in college with whom I worked and collaborated and who basically forced me to work harder and actually write are dispersed across the country, and I’ve never made connections with similar minded people here in Seattle. Any advice? If I had to compare my style and subject and basically provide some comparison to the sort of writing I like doing, I would name people like Douglas Coupland or Benjamin Kunkel.

No longer looking... 2 years ago

I used to thrive in a community of writers when I was a college English professor and I was surrounded by peers (colleagues, students, and writer friends), but that was a long time ago on the other side of the country, and I’ve decided that the social and professional obligations life presents really prevent me from getting what I want out of an artificially constructed “writing community.” Maybe one of these days I’ll stumble back into a group of fellow writers and spend time sharing with them, but it’s no longer somthing I feel I need to make my life complete.

Slouching Toward a Writers Group in Seattle 3 years ago

Hi, fellow Seattleites!

I’m internationally-ignored writer Sky Callahan, a scribbler of both fiction and creative nonfiction, currently at work on a novel and several short stories, and I’m damned enthusiastic about the idea of cobbling together a good writers group somewhere in our fair city or its environs.

I’m a member of the Richard Hugo House, and sometimes attend a writer’s group there—Mélange on Mondays, occurring on the first Monday of each month—but my schedule forces me to miss many of those meetings and I’d like to help establish a backup—populated, I hope, by other writers willing to offer critiques and present their own work for my illumination.

My email address is: sky.callahan@linuxmail.org. Please feel free to contact me at any time.

Anyone interested in forming a writers group? 3 years ago

I belonged to a writers group years ago and I really produced my best work during that time. The group disbanded because 2 of them moved away (it was a group of 4).

I would really like to get together with another writing group, it really worked well for me.

Let me know if you’re interested. If we can’t find a group to join, maybe we can just make our own.

National Novel Writing Month is coming 3 years ago

I get motivated to write every November when National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) comes around. This year, I want to meet with other writers who are grinding out 50,000 words in 30 days, maybe have a moaning session, a cup of coffee, and another 1000 words. If you don’t know about NaNoWriMo, check out nanowrimo.org.

Need a deadline 3 years ago

I find that when I’m in a writing group, I produce more. It is like being in school and having a deadline for an assignment. I also like to have other writers to bounce my work off of. I’d like to kickstart my novel (again) and finish it this time. I’m interested in meeting weekly or biweekly if others are game.
