Paul KostelichPoets in Washington

I’m looking for other poets in Washington state. I’d like to find or form a group of writers who can get together and share their poetry. Writing is essential to developing a society and culture, poets are the one’s who slip into people’s hearts and move their lives. Poetry, as an art, is not recognized in mass and it takes a truely great poet to make a name. This is foolish. Poets have something to offer the world no one else can, we open the world up to people so they can carve their own path in life and we bring the world together by showing that they ARENT ALONE. All writers do this, not just poets. So if I can find a group where any form of writing is accepted I would gladly join that, and I may just start my own group for writers in general. If your interested in finding/starting a group with me, or already know of one I/we can join, let me know asap. 13 months ago

jevans143I need friends with my interests!

Are there any local writing groups? I live in Burien and I am available any week night.
I am an aspiring freelancer that is in desperate need of talking with other people who know what I am talking about. Unfortunately I don’t have anyone in my life that cares about what I do, and would really like to have people read my work and give me feedback. 2 years ago

KBWriteWriting Group in Seattle?

Is anyone interested in joining a writing group in Seattle that starts meeting around the first of October?

I am open to joining a fiction group, though I am currently in the middle of drafting a speculative fiction (aka fantasy) novel. I find that it is almost better to have writers from other genres read my work, because he/she will bring a fresh perspective on the piece.

I would be greatly interested in joining a group of other writers doing novel length pieces (no matter the genre – I am comfortable with almost any content) and who are serious about completing the book and work towards bettering their craft.

Thank you! 2 years ago

jbarkerWriters' Group Needed

So, I need a writers’ group. Desperately. Writing fiction is very important to me, but I can’t seem to concentrate on it the way I used to. The friends and acquaintances I had in college with whom I worked and collaborated and who basically forced me to work harder and actually write are dispersed across the country, and I’ve never made connections with similar minded people here in Seattle. Any advice? If I had to compare my style and subject and basically provide some comparison to the sort of writing I like doing, I would name people like Douglas Coupland or Benjamin Kunkel. 4 years ago

lilymarloweNo longer looking...

I used to thrive in a community of writers when I was a college English professor and I was surrounded by peers (colleagues, students, and writer friends), but that was a long time ago on the other side of the country, and I’ve decided that the social and professional obligations life presents really prevent me from getting what I want out of an artificially constructed “writing community.” Maybe one of these days I’ll stumble back into a group of fellow writers and spend time sharing with them, but it’s no longer somthing I feel I need to make my life complete. 5 years ago

DatapanikSlouching Toward a Writers Group in Seattle

Hi, fellow Seattleites!

I’m internationally-ignored writer Sky Callahan, a scribbler of both fiction and creative nonfiction, currently at work on a novel and several short stories, and I’m damned enthusiastic about the idea of cobbling together a good writers group somewhere in our fair city or its environs.

I’m a member of the Richard Hugo House, and sometimes attend a writer’s group there—Mélange on Mondays, occurring on the first Monday of each month—but my schedule forces me to miss many of those meetings and I’d like to help establish a backup—populated, I hope, by other writers willing to offer critiques and present their own work for my illumination.

My email address is: sky.callahan@linuxmail.org. Please feel free to contact me at any time. 5 years ago

Judy HaleyAnyone interested in forming a writers group?

I belonged to a writers group years ago and I really produced my best work during that time. The group disbanded because 2 of them moved away (it was a group of 4).

I would really like to get together with another writing group, it really worked well for me.

Let me know if you’re interested. If we can’t find a group to join, maybe we can just make our own. 5 years ago

WayzgooseNational Novel Writing Month is coming

I get motivated to write every November when National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) comes around. This year, I want to meet with other writers who are grinding out 50,000 words in 30 days, maybe have a moaning session, a cup of coffee, and another 1000 words. If you don’t know about NaNoWriMo, check out nanowrimo.org. 6 years ago

LauraTNeed a deadline

I find that when I’m in a writing group, I produce more. It is like being in school and having a deadline for an assignment. I also like to have other writers to bounce my work off of. I’d like to kickstart my novel (again) and finish it this time. I’m interested in meeting weekly or biweekly if others are game. 6 years ago

muxerI'm in a professional writers group.

I’m willing to change my vote if you can show any benefits. I went from programmer to writer one day. After a couple years I’ll go back to coding. Note, I’m a writer, not a copy editor (ie, I kan’t spel or tell you grammar rules.) 6 years ago

FootFaceSort of!

It’s not in Seattle. And it hasn’t met yet. Will start in a week or two.

We’ll see how it goes. I’m excited! 6 years ago

PineOrcaThis writing group is about Doing the work!

I’ve been involved in in-person writer’s goups and it was one experience. The main thing for this writer’s group is to work on your work and get published. We do assignments to keep you working, and to work on the bones of being a working writer. My goal for this group is for everyone to eventually have finished product to seek an agent or publisher. Many writers don’t have the confidence or experience to get published, and this goup’s aim is to demystify the experience until the work is eventually accepted somewhere. Having other writers submitting queries etc the same time you are gives us all other points of views to look at on the responses and support each other despite any rejections. This writer’s group is going to take the publishing world by storm I hope! So far we have some good potential writers. 6 years ago

Writing groups never worked well for me. What I needed was effective feedback, not encouragement. Closest I’d seen to a useful writing group was the Melange on Mondays up at the Hugo House. Or some of the small private classes offered around town by certain published writers, tho they can be picky about who they accept. 6 years ago

PineOrcaOnline writer's group

I am looking to create an online writer’s group for those too busy to meet in person but want to get some critiquing of their writing. I’m trying to work out the bare bones of it, been looking online and so far haven’t found what I’m looking for. The group has to be composed of people who want to write, and want to help others, but can separate themselves from arrogance for the time devoted to the group. It doesn’t matter if you’re starting out or have been writing for years like me. The main goal of the group is to help each member reach their full potential by weekly assignments and discussions. I’ve taken classes and been involved with writer’s groups where people are smug and sarcastic and it only left the other members of the group feeling worthless. If you think you’re capable of reading and giving constructive criticism to help people on their writing journey as well as yourself then I think you’d be great. We’ll work on finding writing opportunities then support each other by helping each other to prepare submissions or queries. My goal is to eventually get a website up and running where we can post our work weekly so that the general public can give their “2 cents worth.” Theoretically we’ll all grow in our comfort in doing what successful writers do to get exposed and published! So if you like to:

1. Practice writing creatively
2. Learn to give and take criticism
3. Practice preparing Queries, submissions
4. Develop your writing sea legs in a Ocean of “wannabees”
5. Help start a “Writer’s Studio” much like the actor’s studio
6. Become a best-selling author!

Let’s connect! 6 years ago

MaggieUW Experimental College

I took a poetry workshop at the UW Experimental College. Met a woman there who was starting a group and invited me. :)

It’s been great! We’ve been meeting for over a year now. There’s six of us, all women. I’ve been going to lots more readings and poetry events and made some connections in the Seattle writing community. And of course, it keeps me writing. 7 years ago
