How to play Lady MacBeth in MacBeth
How I did it: I started auditioning for community and university theatre about 3 and a half years ago and got some excellent parts. I did my best to work hard, be easygoing and attentive to my directors and kind to cast and crew. When the auditions were posted for a university production of Macbeth I jumped at the chance. I tried to read Lady M as a very real person rather than a set of stereotypes associated with that character. I got the part and worked very hard to make her real, human, powerful and vulnerable all at once. I think it was one of the top ten experiences of my life.
Lessons & tips: Getting a chance to play Lady M, or any other character, has a lot to do with luck -- will someone put on the play in your area? Are you the physical type they're looking for? But you can study your character, take acting classes, audition for lots of plays, and build a good reputation by working hard and being easy to get along with.
Resources: My psychologist husband and I spent lots of time talking about Lady M and her problems. :) It was great!
