I certainly gained a lot from this experience, not only was it rewarding to help the family out, but I met my boyfriend of two years painting that house!
How I did it: I found a chapter of Habitat at my college and signed up for a winter break trip. A group of my friends had done this before, so it was fairly easy to find out how you can sign up. I haven't left yet, but we leave this Saturday on a 14 hour van ride to SC. So excited! Read how I did it…

I helped build a house on Atlanta Ga through my church and it was such a wonderful experience. I know that Habitat is a religiouly based organization and I am not at all but it’s mission is one of the best.
Spent the day on a Habitat for Humanity job site with many of my coworkers. We put up quite a bit of drywall in two homes that are being built in the East Trenton area. Hard work, but fun nonetheless!
Leyali is sleep-deprived.
Chemicals, dontcha know? Later in life, maybe.
searchingforsunshine is worried about the summer.
so i visited their website, and you have to be at least sixteen to do build houses with habitat for humanity. so that’s out for a while now. but i’m determined to find a regular community service commitment.
I’ve been meaning to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity for years, and it looks like I’ll finally get my chance! We’re going to have a work team-building event at a local Habitat for Humanity site about a month from now. Interested to see what I’ll learn!
actually did this once, a few years back. freezing cold, we shingled a roof and hung dry wall. i was sore for days after.
...it was awesome.
I want to help build homes with Habitat For Humanity or some other similar organization.
ABrownEyedSarah is in law school. Not much time for anything else...!
So, waking up at 7:30 in the morning isn’t high on my list of favorite things, especially when I didn’t get to bed until three the night before… but this was definitely worth it. It wasn’t how I imagined it at all, but it was one of the most rewarding things I’ve volunteered my time to in a LONG time. I definitely want to do this again. I got to insulate walls and waterproof them, as well as do some deconstruction and stuff. We weren’t building an entirely new house, but rather redoing a lot of a really sad lonely one…
Definitely a great way to spend a Saturday morning.
:)

It looks like I will be working a Habitat for Humanity Project on 3 November.
