teach myself piano

I took piano as a child and I want to learn again.

well…fuck. It’s summer and thats really cool but i don’t have much to do. Alright, I have never learned a musical instrument. But, I DO have a piano. Hmmm.. how do i go about this? Piano for dummies? shit, I don’t even know where to start. I am pretty fucking determined. I WILL DO THIS! watch out world!

bought a book of piano technical exercises and I’m using my keyboard’s self-teaching programme and book of songs to get through. I’m doing some very simple Bach and Schumann pieces. Two handed stuff is difficult. I remember doing 2- hand canons at uni – god I had to work hard to pass all that stuff.

I learnt piano for about 6 months when I was a kid. I gave it up to concentrate on cello and voice but man, do I regret it. Over the past few years I’ve tried to get back into it using friends as teachers, but I just never stick to it. It would be so very very useful in so many different ways.

I’ve already started this, but I want to get really good at it. I can play things like Fur Elise and Moonlight Sonata, so I kinda started in the deep-end, but I think thats cos I’m not very patient about these sorts of things. I’m doing all right, I just need more practice sight reading, mainly on the Bass Clef!
