I’ve made a mask (a dragon – my husband’s being a knight) and paper-mached it and painted with texture and scales – looks pretty great. I’ll go and get some sequins/crystals soon and add them. Need to make a tail somehow and also a top with wings.
How to make my Halloween costume
How I did it: I bought some felt fabric at Joann Fabrics and cut the fabric and started pinning. Once everything was pinned in place it was easy to sew or glue together. I was really rushed last minute so alot of the Cap n Crunch costume was hot glued. But both the gnome hat and the cap n crunch hat were hand sewn. They turned out great... I am already starting to think about my costume for next year!
Lessons & tips: Start early and actually sew it! The final product is way better!
Resources: Just google images for ideas and alot of them come with instructions on how to make a homemade costume!

Here I am in my homemade costume… I went as a cheerleader from Miskatonic University.
I worked on some more of the props for my Halloween costume. Technically, I also slacked off on my Spanish homework to do it, but at least I was productive… kinda. Still no picture of me in my outfit, but at least my costume doesn’t look like one of these.
I’ve made most of the base costume, between a long Wednesday night and a few little early morning fixes to things. Now I just need to work on a decal for the middle of my top and snaps to my skirt. It’s made my week more jam-packed, but I’m glad I was able to finish off most of it before the costume party I’m going to tonight…
I forgot to label it done, but it’s done!
The party was a blast; I had so much fun getting orders for people and dropping off checks; you should have seen the look on some people’s faces when I handed them checks. And I got lots of tips, of course. My mother was a BIG tipper.
On Halloween itself, I still had lots of mints left, so I handed them to the people giving out candy. And people were very amused by the pork special :D (a stuffed pig I was carying around on a plate)
The costume’s finished!
I’m not gonna concider this goal complete until after Halloween. Especially after the party; I definitelly want to blog people’s reactions :)
Katrina got an apron for me! She’s bringing it tomorrow!
And I finally got a hold of some real pepermints to give out!
Now all that’s left is getting things washed and gathering up all the supplies. And email the hostess of the party this weekend to let her know what I’m doing.
I’ve decided that I’m going to greet people at the door and get their orders that way. And when they get the bill, I’ll have a price written on the bill, but I’ll say it’s on the house because of the special event. But I’ll have a board on the snack table listing the specials, along with the note “Waitresses work for hugs. Please don’t forget to tip.”
I can’t wait until this weekend!!!
at this point, all I need now is an apron and a few small trays for bills. (and figure out what kind of currency to use on people lol)
I couldn’t find an apron for sale anywhere, but my friend Katrina offered to find an old one for me from her job.
I may go to the dollar store to find some plastic food to walk around with :)
I should be starting on it soon. I’m dressing as Flo from Diner Dash (basically a waitress). I need an apron and a good shirt for it, and I can get a tray and some mints and stuff myself. I’ve been trying to get around to making an apron, but I just got a little bit of money from my grandmother, and if it’s just for myself to use (it was aside from another check for school), I may just buy an apron. I’m definitelly buying a new shirt if I can use the money.
