I have been on several police ride-alongs with our local sheriff’s department and they have all been very memorable experiences. I highly recommend this to anyone (whether they, like me, are interested in joining law enforcement at some time in their lives or are just curious about being on the other side of the flashing lights).
During my experience (I can’t give too much information) I was in a car traveling 125 MPH down the interstate and was along for many different calls that required the siren to blare overhead and for everyone to scatter out of our way.
It is an excellent experience as I’ve said. Most communities have some form of ride-along program while others have Citizen’s Police Academies where you can learn police work and then afterwards tag along during an officer’s shift.
