Am I the only one who thinks that having a teenage daughter is worse than Hell?!?
How I did it: I decided to eliminate the causes of the problem. I dropped 25 pounds. I'm on my way to losing 20 more. I no longer drink alcohol or salty foods. I changed my diet completely. I got on a serious workout program. Discipline. Discipline. Discipline.
Lessons & tips: When I started seeing results and understanding that 3500 caloreies is equal to 1lb of fat, then I realized that weigt training and reducing blood presurre and eliminating high cholesterol was obviously a math problem. You burn more calories than you eat. You eat quality calories. You excercise alot. The main motivation was the will to begin live a quality life.
Resources: Muscle and fitness magazine. You get lots of great information on how to work out and changing your diet to eating more protein and less carbs. A website called http://caloriecount.about.com/ to keep track of what you eat with a daily rating. Also tracks your daily weight. You should monitor your weight on a daily basis. When your weight increases, you know exactly why it went up. Carry a backpack on a daily basis. Carry your workout clothes and sneakers. Carry your protein shakes. You need to workout daily so just do it.

I don’t know how accurate my home testing machine is, but from past tests, I gather its pretty accurate :( I just joined this site tonight. It’s 12:15 am On sept 24th. It’s also the first day of the rest of my life. I’ve had a pounding migraine for the 3rd day in a row now, and I just can’t continue living this way. The reality of what I’m doing to my self is finally setting in because I cry as i’m writing this. It hurts to think I let it get this far. I have always been tiny (and skinny). I don’t recall exactly when I started slacking on my health, but over the last couple yrs I must have gained about 30 lbs (at least). I made some small changes over the last couple months, but its not enough. I did finally quit smoking after 15 yrs (pack a day). I thought that quitting would be enough, but it wasn’t. I began eating alot more. Mostly out of bordom I gather. As my belly grew, and cellulite formed on my thighs, I would find myself making excuses. “I’d rather be fat then have cancer”. But I didn’t mean it, and it hurt inside everytime I said it. Of course I don’t want to have Cancer (no one does) But I don’t want to be overweight either. I don’t want to be on meds. I want one more chance to lower my BP on my own. I promise that this time I will try. I will stop making excuses and I will do what I need to do. I understand now that I have no choice, Its a matter of life and death..Literally.
scooterbird is getting things accomplished ...slowly
First day back at work from vacation; my train was delayed because of a “mechanical problem”, my stomach is urpy from a too-late-night dinner, and CNN is nattering in the background about something or another. Time to put on the soundtrack to Cosmos and drown out the world for a bit.
When I was at the doctor yesterday for a physical he told me that my blood pressure was borderline and that if I were to drop around 10 to 15 pounds it should go down so it is more fully in the normal range instead of the upper end pushing high. So it looks like I have another good reason to work on losing weight.
David Cohen working 12 hour days...but that's not a complaint...
No that I have lowered my daytime pulse to 60, I need to lower my BP down to 120/80. 140/90 is too high. I will up the exercise, lower salt, increase raw food, take B5 and hawthorne berries – and get right back to you.

IronVine is fighting the good fight.
- what I mean is that it was a false alarm. It really cost me in terms of wasted worry. But, it did get me motivated to exercise more, so I guess it was good.
tknight is t'done t'day
This is an ongoing effort that needs better results.
So far the trend is in the right range…
I have managed to see 138 over 92 last week…
A High Normal for my Systolic and a Mild Stage 1 for my Diastolic.
One day at a time…
portraprincess i have lost 18lbs so far!
1. less SALT
2. less SODIUM
3. less FAT
4. less SATURATED FAT
5. less ALCOHOL
6. less CAFFEINE
7. more EXERCISE
...enough to at least lower the dosage of medication, if not get off of it entirely.
