thebigtwosix is figuring out how to do all these things...
A landscape maybe, or an abstract. Something.
How I did it: I broke out the acrylics, and sketched out a design. Then I mixed colors and painted! I persevered and worked with basic colors and basic shapes. I wanted something that could have a significance greater than what is seen immediately, and I think I accomplished that. I know it's basic, but there are nuances. The purple square casts no shadow, for instance. It is singular. It is away from the group. Read how I did it…

I was in Michael’s craft store wandering around yesterday and they had a great paint section. I am a complete novice, and didn’t want to get too expensive, so I bought about $15 worth of supplies—canvas paper, a small set of acrylic paint, and some crappy brushes.
It doesn’t matter, I’m not setting out to make a masterpiece, I just want to have fun, maybe try out some abstract expressionism, considering I have no real artistic talent.
My electricity was out today, but luckily I had those paint supplies that I had conveniently impulsively bought yesterday. I started on something, it might be almost done actually: an ocean and sunrise horizon scene..I’ve always wanted to try that, just to play with the colors. It’s not looking terrible, I can’t wait to finish!
i never thought i would paint again after breaking both of my hands, or that i would want to. my hands were weak and stupid & when i came back to it i was crap. i had no real technique to begin with, nothing certain to fall back on, no methods to retrain by. but 2 years have passed, my hands are healing well enough, i’m persistent enough to keep trying and it’s completely worth it. because painting good or bad, finished or un, is one of the most fulfilling tangible activities i’ve ever done. and i’ve recently finally completed something i like.

I really phoned in this one. I started this painting in August and haven’t touched it once since. So, of course, I couldn’t get the colors to blend and match just right, and my detail brush was ass, so the face looks incredibly juvenille, argh. But, it’s done, and hanging on the wall, mua ha ha!
I’d like to do this again, but am not going to add the “pressure” of putting it on my list, I’d like it to just be habit or hobby. And of course, I’ll need a new pallet and some new detail brushes, and of course, more paint… :)
I’d really like to take on a BIG canvas. I have a giant spot in the kitchen taht could use some oomph.

I am setting up my easel this Friday, dammit.

I finally started yesterday. I’m almost finished with my first painting in 6 years. I decided to go with a replica of Picasso’s Portrait of Dora Maar. I really love that painting, so now I’ll have my very own version in my hallway! Yaaay!

I have the easel and paint and canvas and brushes. Now I just need to figure out what I want to paint!
Completed yesterday morning. Acrylics and chalk on canvas board. I’ll be painting more this week and out selling it at the public gardens by next weekend.
I can stop worrying about money now :)
