Also visited the planetarium, which was great—they’ve come a long way since 5th grade. :)
How to visit an Observatory
How I did it: I went to the Lick Observatory on Mt. Hamilton. It's near San Jose, California. Take 680 to Alum Rock and follow CA-130 to the top. There are some nice trails and parks along the way.
Lessons & tips: Go during June through September. No viewings during the other months. There is a small tour though and you can walk around. It was worth it because it is free but I want to come back in the summertime. It's open from 12:30 to 5:00, but the drive is rather scary so take your time and go while the sun is out. Bring a camera!

I love space but I’d never bothered to go to an observatory… until I made this goal! After setting this goal, I made a reservation at the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles and I went! IT WAS GREAT! Except it was cloudy…. so I have to go back to look through the telescope….
I am amazed by space. I must either have it or explore it. Yes, I’m a nerd. But a cute one, that’s not overinvolved in the geek portion of being a nerd. I’ll talk yer ear off about it. So much to learn…
