I finished the book this weekend. It was ok, but it wasn’t his best book, that’s for sure. The idea of temptation was there, but it was rather obvious how it would end.
I picked up a copy of The Devil and Miss Prym at the library yesterday. I started reading and was quite intrigued by the subject of this book: temptation. And now I am wondering how much it takes to resist temptation? Looking forward to reading a couple more pages this evening.
When I was seventeen we had to read The Alchemist during some literature classes. Most people, although critical teens, loved the book. I did as well. We spend hours discussing the book during those classes.
Later on, I bought the book, read it again after going through some hard time and it made me see life clearly again. Every time a friend of mine was having troubles or felt down, I advised them to read this book. I even borrowed the book to a friend… and never saw it back again.
In the mean while I have read “Veronika decides to die”, “Eleven minutes” and “By the river Piedra I sat down and wept”. They’ve all left a big impression and I now want to read all of his books.
finally….finished the Valkyries (it was a little strange)! Next I think I’ll read Eleven Minutes.
Daniel Martins is alive
Paulo Coelho is, maybe, the best writer I ever read. I recommend The Alchemist, Warrior of Light, The Pilgrimage and maybe Maktub.
Unfortunately, Mr. Coelho isn’t that good as he thinks he is. But some of his books are worth it.
I enjoyed reading Veronika Decides to Die, and Brida.
