I trained years ago but never completed (got pregnant instead!)
Would love to do this.
I would like to run in NH or VT – both have nice marathons in the fall.
Don’t care where I place, would just like to finish
How to run a marathon (any marathon)
How I did it: First I set the goal. It was only something I was saying I was going to do. When the date approached, I ran as often as I could, as long as I could, at a pace that was comfortable to me. I got up to a few 16 mile runs before my first marathon, but that doesn't prepare you for an actual marathon.
Lessons & tips: Alternate sweet and salty snacks (the goo, the half bananas, electrolyte drinks, things that help you maintain sodium, potassium and blood sugar) with water, so you don't get dehydrated or lose too many minerals. Wear a hat to decrease the negative effect of the sun on your face. Slow down, no matter how exciting the crowd is. Run 3-5 times a week for at LEAST 12 weeks out, preferably more, especially if you're not a runner. If you're not a runner, you need 6 months to a year to prepare in my opinion.

I signed up for the 2009 LA Marathon, and will begin official training next month. :)
Ran a marathon at Balckpool 2006, was too hot and I suffered. The key to any big race is preparation do loads of training, join a running club if you can nad drink plenty on roue.
Good luck peeps!
aliaaaaa starts school for the second to last time next week.
So, I missed my most recent marathon deadline. Training was derailed because of persistent illnesses. I’ve tentatively considered to try to run the NY City Marathon with my brother and his wife next November. It’s funny, because earlier this year, I was trying to get him to run one with me, and now the tables are turned. Anyway, I’m going to be considering that one and crunching numbers on how much training I need to do. He wants to use it as a potential qualifier for Boston, but I don’t think he realizes how good your times have to be to qualify for Boston. Anyway… that’s just an update.
rafterman is living in Washington again...
Just run three times a week four months in advance and you’ll be ready! I did it!

I would really like to raise some money for Dorothy House. They looked after my mum’s best friend Mandy and her lovely family when she was very poorly. I’m can’t do anthing to bring Mandy back but i can do something to show my support to the people who helped and cared for her. If anything Mandy’s death and my mum’s health problems should teach me to make the most of life and really look after myself and everyone around me. I AM going to run a marathon and raise money for Dorothy House in 2008.
This was one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. I ran in the Nike San Fran marathon for leukemia, and I’ve never felt better. Now I’m training for another!

I thought this was worth doing once, but I don’t see doing it again. Still, if it’s something you set your mind to, there’s value in conquering yourself to make it happen.
