It was great! I wasn’t really expecting it to be as purple as it is because it’s a Boots Dark Mahogany and I thought it’d just go darker and redder – but it went sort of purpley reddy brown, because my hair naturally had a lot of different tones it also toned itself
It’s more ‘burnt plum’ than purple, but it’s really good. I love it. The texture is great.
So what I did was, I went to boots in search of a colour that was sorta blackish, brownish, reddish purplish. And when I couldn’t find one that looked the right colour but wasn’t cheap and tacky, I eventually went for the Boots Botanics collection because it looked the most natural. My hair is a sort of medium brown with natural blonde bits, and natural darker bits, and on the back of the packet it says that medium browns will go darker than blondes – obviously. So I went home and did a sensitivity test and a strand test – the strand test I couldn’t really see the colour in that much, and the sensitivity test it says to wait for 48 hours but I couldn’t so when I didn’t get an allergic reaction, I died my hair two hours later.
It was my first time so I was a bit apprehensive when the hair dye went dark purple – I thought it was going the wrong colour. But it said ‘the colour of the dye bears no resemblance to the colour your hair will go’ and then it was alright.
I got my mum to section my hair and then smother it equally because apparently it’s hard otherwise, and still some parts of my hair are alot purpler than others. But overall, i LOVE it!!
wooah. :)

How I did it: I bought Manic Panic "Purple Haze" dye and some bleach and developer and went for it! A friend helped me bleach and actually put it in my hair. It's helpful to have a sink that's okay to get a little messy. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I bought a bottle of demi-permanent purple dye for around $10 at Hot Topic, applied it to my hair following the directions included (it smelled like grape!), waited, and rinsed my hair. It was purple :) Read how I did it…
How I did it: I no longer remember the brand of hair color I bought. I got it from a drugstore and the label said the color was aubergine or something. I have jet black hair so the color came out very dark purple. Indoors, it looked like my hair was still black, but when outdoors, the sun picks up the purplish tint. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I first dyed my hair purple when I was 17. When I met my boyfriend at the time he had purple hair and I thought it was the coolest thing, it quickly became my favorite colour.I bleached my hair at home then used Directions purple dye, with help from my family. Purple hair looked more right to me than my natural colour. However I got out of the habit of maintaining it and I missed it. Here's a photo of me then:I'm 20 now and I decided … Read how I did it…
How I did it: Well it was pretty easy. I just bought the packet and dyed my hair - although the hair on the packet looks nothing like the final result, the final result was actually closer to what I was looking for. It's sort of a burnt plum colour, but they called it 'dark mahogany.' Y;know, bit of black, brown, red and purple ... still counts? It's awesome. Read how I did it…

I want to dye my hair purple like it was 2 years ago.
It was a really interesting color.
Without the sun, it would be a dark purple…almost like dark violet color, but once the sun hit my hair it would be electric!
I bought some hair dye, where the box looked purple, but it turned out this fushia/red-ish color!! O_O
[Manic Panic doesn’t work well without the bleach, by the way.]
Luckily, I managed to find a different brand with a nice purple-black hue.
I think it looks cool and classy at the same time, I LOVE IT! XD

I just want one slash of purple about an inch wide in my black hair. Hotness i think.
but this one has more people, so here it is:
I used to use Wella ColorCharm 4V, but I can never find that anymore. :( It came out very dark at first, then would lighten to a burgundy/plum. It stayed in nicely, and didn’t stain my skin. Now that I can’t find that, I’ve used:
Manic Panic Deadly Nightshade and Purple Haze mixed together.
This combo looked awesome after I dyed it, but faded UBER fast. Not too much skin staining, because I put moisturizer around my hairline and on my ears.
Plum Herbatint Permanent hairdye
This one was very runny and smelled awful. Faded very quickly. I also bought the Violet one but haven’t used it.
Clairol Color Flirt in some kind of purple color
It was a mousse and very easy/fun to apply. Gave a nice shiny light purple color. Faded quickly. Can’t find it anymore.
Splat! hair color in Lusty Lavender
Stained everything! I was violet all over. Again, it didn’t last long at all. My boyfriend said it gave the best color, though.
So, all in all, I’m still searching for a perfect purple. You know, something that keeps my hair violet and not just my bath tub. :/ Sigh.
SLeimbach is hoping she gets into action!
In my early 50’s I was finally so comfortable in my own skin that I finally “painted” my hair (as my hubby would say) a number of outrageous colors. I loved it! Talk about lifting my spirits! Hah! And I finally settled on red as my everyday color, although purple looks great with my skin tones!
