So today I start working on improving both reading speed and comprehension. I figure that improvements here pay off with learning anything else in the future, so this goal is a good place to start on my new unitask-oriented method. So…
On day one, after two inventory tests, may current rate of reading is a solid 162 words per minute, with 66% comprehension. From this point, that means that I must improve to reading 486 words per minute and have better than 66% comprehension to complete this goal. Here goes…

If I could learn whatever I wanted, in a much faster time…

I wish this on my self… I have to tell myself to continue to read books!

Since I was young, I’ve loved to read anything I could get my hands on, and my vocabulary continues to grow every year thanks to my English classes at school and freetime spent reading. Yet, I don’t know why it takes me days to read some books that most people finish within a few hours. Perhaps it is an attention-span issue, yet I have no problem getting absorbed in a story for hours on end. I often reread books and other things to better comprehend the meanings and themes of the story. I’m a huge Harry Potter fan and even went to the midnight party for the sixth book release; my friends finished the book that very night whereas I slowly moved through it in my free time over the next week. I think if I read more quickly I might have more time to do other things or read even more books.

I can’t even enjoy reading. I have all of these books on history, world events, and fiction that I want to read. But, I’ve finally figured out that there is a word for my reading techniques, “Subvocalizing,” or talking to yourself in your head while silently reading. How do I read faster? Even magazines are less enjoyable b/c I’m just so slow. That person that said 100 words in an hour? Of course, I’m kidding, but I say to you, “quit your whining ;-)” HELP!!!
