Would be to take the guided tour in French…and understand it all! However I am willing to compromise on this part of the goal. ihear the guides mostly hold degrees in Art History and are totally passionate about their job. If I have to take an English tour I will cope with that.

Absolutely amazing. Gold EVERYWHERE. Best advice, go tour the gardens about closing time, find a private spot and have a quickie shag. I shagged in the garden at Versailles. Those are some bad ass bragging rights.
Do not touch anything. Do not attempt to stray from the tour. Do not take anything (including dead wood from the garden). I learned the hard way when I tried to exit with a neat-o dead twig that had been pruned from a yew tree. They got really pissy and I ended up sulking out feeling like the ugly American. Then again, the French are ALWAYS pissy. Good wine though.
