i just got home from a marathon thai boxing match. it was quite an experience, more than 3 hours of boxing action. the stadium was questionable, much less than i expected for one of the biggest stadiums in thailand but what it lacked in size and grandeur it made up for in character. we sat in the 2nd class seats because i didn’t want to risk getting splattered with blood or sweat and i wanted to be able to watch the gambling action by the locals. instead of chairs we had to sit on bleachers that made you terrified of falling because you would land in a pile of urine, trash, or who knows what. lots of nefarious looking people and oh yeah, ferocious fighting. At least two fighters were taken away on stretchers. what a night!

well i’m planning on going home in august so i have little time to complete my thailand oriented goals. i’ll have to work on at least one each weekend or give them up and i hate giving up on things.
i’ve watched a few matches on t.v. they usually broadcast it live on sunday afternoons and other random times. they had one match with boys that looked like they were about 10 years old. they were so little but feisty. they were entertaining to watch but it made me question the ethics of having children fight each other on t.v. like that.
now its just a matter of making it to the stadium on the right night.
watched this thai movie last night about a gay cross-dressing muay thai boxer. it was really interesting even though it didn’t have any english subtitles. i recommend it if you are interested in the sport and/or thai culture, esepcially if you can get it with subtitles! it had some great fight scenes
i’m determined to do it either this weekend or next weekend. i’ve put it off long enough; i mean really, i’ve been in bangkok for over 8 months. its about time!
