Chrys aka Krys H. is making Scrunchies 4 Sale!
Arrived Canal Street. Saw the Ferry boats & RiverWalk, Harrah’s Casino & Aquarium. Steamboats on Mississippi river are absolutely fabulous! Carries you back to the Tom Sawyers & Huck Finns of the time!
Trams (trolleys on tracks) are still operating in this town! Very quaint! Walked Canal St. to Decatur, visiting shops & cafes along the way and taking lots of pictures. Saw a mime riding a bike!!! Statues (ie. Joan of Arc), Cathedrals & other notable photo sites. Stopped at Jackson Square & French Market.
Crossed on St. Philip’s, intersected Chartres & Royal (all street names are in French)—totally taken in by the local beauty & incomparable architecture! Reached Bourbon, what a treat! The balconies are to die for! A good mix of French, Greek revival, Italianate style, Gothic, Queen Anne & Georgian Architecture. The horse & buggies really added to the local charm. Pubs, shops & hotels /pensions are breath-taking, excellent flora and lots of voodoo & mardi gras souvenirs as well! Great stuff!
Walked for 2 hours in the scorching sun but was worth every minute! Didn’t have enough time to visit museums, plantations or the U.S. Mint, but on way out of town we made a point to visit one of the famous “Cities of the Dead” St. Louis Cemetery (1789)! What an impressive site to see!
(really wanted to try some authentic Cajun Bayou food! maybe next time…)
P.S. Katrina’s devastation still visible in many parts of N.O. especially driving on I-10
