having walked it three times, and done the half moonwalk – I’ve decided that I’m going to enter race for life next year – and I’m going to run
How to run the race for life
How I did it: I trained 3 or 4 times a week, building my distance up from 3/4 a mile to start with up to the whole 5km and more. Over hills, in sunshine, against wind etc etc.
I was determined to run it in less than 40 minutes, as it happens I completed it in 32 minutes on a hangover. Its opened my eyes to my ability to run, and I raised £250 for a great charity.
Lessons & tips: Train, don't give up.
Resources: Sponsorship is the biggest motivation ever.
Music. An upbeat playlist wins every time.

nufan is postponing alot of things :(
It’s next month and I’m still far to fragile and unwell to think about it. This year I’ll give my support by sponsoring people and hopefully heading down there to cheer people on.
I’ll re-open it for next year though.

essgee is currently hating her job.
Gah! Can’t do it this summer as it falls on the same day that I get back from my holiday. Will have to put this goal off for another year, what a pain.
sekhmet1970 is really trying to let it all go now....
I have finally got moving! I’ve been to various exercise classes to improve my overall general fitness and have been running a couple of times this week. It’s hard!! What keeps me going though is thinking how this is a doddle compared to the ops and chemo that my various family members have experienced.

I have registered and will be running it May 17th…..
Until January of this year, I had never been able to run for more than 4 minutes without doubling over with stitch. When, a few months ago, I managed to run for 10 whole minutes I was so proud of myself and decided to commit to running the Race for Life to encourage my new found stamina. Training has started. Slowly but surely. And I WILL do this!
i think its a really good cause and it would be a brilliant personal goal to achive.
well i did the race for life yesterday its a victory that i did it i didn’t run it all well i walked most of it but next year im going to run a bit more and a bit more and one day i will RUN the race for life!!
HallieBaby needs to spend less time setting goals and more time achieving them
The race was on Sunday :D It was POURING with rain, and so so freezing, but we did it! It was on the beach, too, which made it even harder, and there were literally rivers flowing down to the sea, which we had to traipse through. It was hard to run, because of the conditions- we ran at the beginning and end, but walked the majority of it. I wouldn’t have been able to run all of it in good conditions, anyway! At the end we got goody bags containing FOOD! And other goodies. And we got medals :D Before the race there were these hot Nivea cheerleaders (males ones!) who this feeble cheer, but it was good to watch :) And then there was a reeeally animated aerobics person trying to warm us all up and get us to join in with the routine. Not many people felt like it in the miserable/freezing conditions, but everyone did it and it was pretty fun in the end :D
I raised £50- just need to collect it now!
Typically, the next day and today it’s been really nice weather, warm and sunny!
