I’m giving a demonstration of Biofeedback in my community next Friday, and there seem to be a lot of folks interested – unfortunately, I can’t hook the unit up to my good laptop, as it uses an old rs-232 com port, so I’ll have to lug my desktop down to the Common House. I think this will lead to an increase in usage, though which is cool.

I just found out a few days ago about Emotiv’s new technology. It looks quite impressive, but I’m not sure yet whether it’s “EEG” is actually measuring brain activity, or whether it’s doing some sophisticated analysis of the electrical impulses for facial muscles.
I’m waiting for their company to give me a call, and if I like what I hear, I’ll probably get one of their helmets when they come out!
I love my Waverider, but haven’t used the EEG on it yet… (I should make that a goal for this weekend), in part because of all the prep needed. This Emotiv helmet looks pretty plug and play.
I’m HOPING HOPING HOPING that they have some sort of SDK available that gives low level access to the information coming in, rather than just pre-digested and interpreted stuff.
I’m tempted to take a field trip down to San Francisco to beta test one of the helmets…. would be a fun adventure!
I bought the biofeedback game Journey to the Wild Divine and Wisdom Quest about two years ago and the Heartmath Freezeframer 2 with earsensor for PC which programs I both used on my laptop and last year (2006) I bought the portable EmWave (2 actually; and I lent it to a few people).
Interesting stuff and there is a lot of info available on heartmath.org. I became a Heartmath Charter member to support further development. I would like to combine multiple biofeedback tools and therapeutic practises in my research. Like using meditative and brainwave exercises to monitor going to heart coherence and brainwave alpha level (see also: Silva Mind Control Method), EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming).
I hope to gain more awareness and consciousness about the processes so I can improve methods of (self)development, (self)healing, learning and education as a whole.
We’re in the midst of this year’s three day jam. Yesterday morning, before the other celebrants arrived again, Aaron and I did a bit of biofeedback work. It was a wonderful re-introduction, and fun to get to go through the basics of the ECG and GSR with him.
Once back from NC I think I’m going to set myself some specific biofeeback related goals to aim for once a week.
I’ve often found it amusing that most folks are happy to simply user their windows/mac system, clicking icons and not necessarily too curious about how the things that happen work. I’ve always loved understanding the details of how computers function, and how to tweak them.
And yet, I have a supreme ignorance about the workings of my own body. Yoga has helped me develop a bit of a better understanding and deeper experience of my body, but it’s still pretty limited.
Biofeedback has interested me for a long while, and finally earlier this year I bought a biofeedback unit that does GSR, ECG, and EEG. I’ve only used it a bit, but it’s amazing. I want to become more systematic in my use, and actually begin learning my body, and gaining a better ability to listen to it and alter its state.
Milestones- Learn how to use the EEG properly
- Come up with a few exercises to do regularly
- Do 40 days of practice/research on myself using the biofeedback unit.
