I’ve been doing research on how I can keep my hair healthy, and on new ways I can style it. I have a tendency to just keep it in a braid, but there are so many other ways long hair can be attractively arranged.
How to grow my hair to my knees
How I did it: I started growing out my hair 15 years ago. The main technique I used was benign neglect - I just kept it pulled back in a braid, and stayed away from people with scissors!
Lessons & tips: Avoid scissors. I only used them for trimming off split ends one by one if my hair started tangling too easily.
Avoid curling irons, blow driers, perms, and coloring treatments, since heat and chemicals are generally bad for hair.
Keeping your hair pulled back in a braid or bun as much as possible will help protect it much better than if it is loose.
Resources: I found that The Long Hair Community had a lot of useful advice. You can find it at this link: http://www.longhaircommunity.com/index.php

Growing up, I lived with my parents and two brothers. It was always so much easier for my mother to get all our hair cut the same way – so I had a little boy haircut as a child. Even after that was no longer acceptable, my mother wouldn’t let me grow my hair past my chin – and I HATED it! So a couple years ago, I decided that she shouldn’t have that kind of control, and I’ve been growing it ever since. My hair now hangs to my belt. My ideal length is “classic length” according to TLHS.org (The Long Hair Site) which is around the middle of the butt. I want to grow my hair all the way to my knees, and then cut it back to Classic length, and leave it there. Long hair ROCKS!
