join a roller derby

I’ve always been intimidated by roller skating growing up, I was never really any good. It wasn’t until I saw the Jet City Roller Girls online that I was really intrigued. All the women are so strong. It’s almost like they all are superheroes, with secret identities. It’s not the falling that scares me, it’s not getting hurt. There is an 8 week booty camp to help get ready for try outs. I want to sign up before the end of the year.

I came up with my roller girl name the other day: Veronica Danger. I kind of love it.

I know it’s probably silly to be as passionate as I am about something like Roller Derby, but goodness, I am! I love this game!

In the past eight months, I’ve met more people that I admire, advanced more physically, mentally and emotionally, and had more fun than I have in years. It’s hard, it’s gruelling, it defeats you again and again, but when you’re on, it’s SO worth it.

I’m primarily a jammer for my team, the Derby Intelligence Agency of the Duke City Derby. I’m finding new challenges by playing the other positions as well. I recommend this goal to anyone – get out there and do it!
