title change.

i changed the title to something more feasible for now. wanting to be able to speak spanish fluently is too much of a jump for someone who hasn’t spoken it at all in 4 years! cindy and i bought a latin american spanish phrasebook and we’re taking turns reading it.
i’m thinking about speaking spanish to my sister’s friend who is fluent in it, but i’m too self-conscious to attempt to that. maybe once i get to know him better i’ll give it a shot. i should probably try to speak spanish to my cousin too because grew up in bolivia and speaks it fluently!

3 years worth.

i took spanish in high school for three years, and by the third year i think i was pretty good at it. then i stopped and never practiced. i can still understand some things, and i honestly believe that if i were to take one more year of spanish (and study hard, of course), i can be fluent in it.
unfortunately, my school doesn’t offer language courses and i don’t have the time now to take spanish at a community college when i’m busy with school.
i considered changing this goal to “have a conversation in spanish” or something, but my ambitious friend declared that we should try to pursue this goal. last weekend, my friend and i bought a handy spanish translation guide, and this weekend we plan on venturing down to olvera st. cause we’ve always wanted to go there, and it’s a good chance to see how good/bad we are with spanish!

I grew up with a multilingual housekeeper teaching me Spanish. I took it in junior high, high school and college. I’ve picked up an awful lot, but always been too shy and in doubt of my own abilities to attempt a conversation with a native speaker. First, I’ve got a lot of brushing up to do.
