I’m too afraid of the long term effects. Maybe I’ll overcome the fear after they’ve been doing the surgery for 20 years or so.

I went and talked to the Omaha Eye & Laser Institute, and did all the tests and got my quote. It will be $3200 for the full job. Not as bad as I thought it would be, since I’m going to the best place in Nebraska. And luckily I can use my HSA (and even though I’ve put all that money in there, it’s still income tax free). I’ve got $1800 in there now, and I just upped my contribution to $80 per month, so this goal will be accomplished. I just don’t know how long. If I allow myself to do the math right now, I’ll get overwhelmed and discouraged.

So- I’m just going to be glad that I’m saving up for something important to me, and stick with it, and eventually I’ll get there…

Two Month Check-up 1 month ago

I can’t believe it’s been two months since I had Lasik surgery. The doctor said my eyes are doing good today. What a great investment.

I am sick and tired of stumbling out of bed and not be able to see what time it is. I don’t want to wear contacts because I used them and they scratched the cornea of my eye. So I am considering calling a doctor to find out how much it cost and just finally correct my eyesight.

There are many other things I rather do with the money so this is being pushed to the bottom of the list.

Getting Lasik in 2009 6 months ago

I’ve thought about Lasik for about 5 years now and am finally going to do it this year. I am super nervous! I can’t believe I will no longer have to wear glasses! I got my eyes dilated on the 30th and have the green light for surgery on January 14th. I just found out that the drops I need are going to cost $254! It’s called Restasis. My goal besides going through with Lasik is to find a CHEAPER source for the drops. If anyone has suggestions or links.. please share.

If I don't take care of me, who will? 6 months ago

My “monovision” is nearly impossible to adjust with glasses and now with middle age it is getting worse. I love needlecrafts and reading so this is high on my priority list. Plus, I’m sure the wrinkles between my brows are from straining to see. Gotta figure out where to get the $$$ tho’.

Based on the screening results I am borderline eligible for lasik procedure. The Dr. recommended the more invasive alternative instead – RKP, or something like that. Cost is about the same, but the recovery is longer. Each eye is done separately.
I am not thrilled with that option. I may get another screening and second opinion next year sometime. For now, I’m retiring this goal.

I got glasses instead. Cheaper and cuter.

first step 10 months ago

I went and got glasses, because you can’t wear contacts 1 week before the procedure. I also narrowed down to 2 places for the surgery. My next step is to schedule a consultation. I guess I should do for both places and then see which one I like the best.
