Giving up 2 weeks ago

I’m not so much giving up on what I want to do, but rather I’m junking the route.

I’ve decided that a job is not for me. What I really need to do is go into business for myself. Thus I’m “giving up” on this goal and opening a different one.

Economic cratering 10 months ago

Ugh. I’m picking my way through companies that seem like they might be interesting to work for, but the economy! Oh well. I’ve got a job, and that’s no small luxury at the moment.

Yeah, I did apply for a job that appears to be a fusion of all of my experience. Though I have to admit, I’m not very excited about it. Sure, it would be a step up careerwise, but it seems like it could be a dead end position in the long run. Current employees at the place have referred to the pay and benefits package as golden handcuffs.

Driving me nuts slowly and quickly 15 months ago

My job is getting to me.

Some aspects of it I love. Lots. I really like the parts where I’m writing copy, working on large projects and representing the company at conferences. These are things that I might want to include in my next job, but I’m not sure where to start.

Other parts I hate. IT. Yuk. Small company woes. Yuk. Old, misconfigured computers. Not having my achievements recognized.

I’m having trouble thinking up what my next step needs to be. Obviously, I’ve got to find a job that meets my skill set: I can’t be an accountant or engineer. The problem I’ve got is that by the end of the day, I’m so beaten by some of the hard aspects of my job, that I don’t feel qualified.

I’ll have to think about how to go about this some more.
