I think I’m going to register to take a class at a dance studio in the spring semester. Part of what I miss about dancing is getting the opportunity to wear expressive costumes and show off what I have learned. Simply going to the rec center dance class once a week is not going to allow me to do that, and I probably need to dance more than that to be good enough for Dance Alabama. I haven’t danced in a while so I feel that I need lessons from professionals to get me back to where i was before. If I don’t do this now, I will never do it until it’s too late.

I stopped dancing after I went to college. I participated in a show the summer before and then when my sorority did not pick me to be in the homecoming pledge dance it went down hill after that. I’ve always wanted to keep dancing and everytime I watch a movie or tv show about dance or go to a play or dance show, I just yearn to be on stage in costume and dancing along with them. I have always wanted to try out for dance alabama and this year is my last chance before graduation.
1. Go to hip-hop class at the rec center. Hip-hop was always my best and favorite form of dance, probably because I did it the most. If I start going to these classes once a week, I am hoping to work myself back into dancing shape. I am going to my first class this Thursday night.
2. Try out for dance alabama. I have my dance shoes in my closet, so why not? I will never let myself live it down if I do not get a chance to try out this year. Hopefully its not too late.

So I thought that I would be fulfilling this goal this year, but… still no…
I signed up for a dance class at my old studio because my boss had told me it wouldn’t be an issue to give me an extra half hour at lunch to run to the studio for class… The day after registration he decided no that was too much time for me to be gone and said I either lose my “promotion” or give up what I want…
I’m having a lot of issues staying at the library right now…
1.) The biggest issue is the pay. I’m getting promoted and a raise and I’m only going to be making $8 an hour (and only getting 15 hours a week). I’ve been at the library for about six years. My sister’s boyfriend makes more than me and he’s a cart boy at Tops…
2.) I miss dance. I miss performing… Musicals, singing, dancing… And I’m asking myself am I going into the right field… Am I going to be happy giving that up for the rest of my life? I’ve been looking at the Disney audition schedule and thinking “Damn, I want to do that.” But then I think “Oh well that’s not smart. How will that help me in the future.” I always pick the safe path and I’m scared that I’m going to regret it in the future….
And I want to dance dammit… And it just is not working out in my favor this year…

I have let some physical limitations keep me from doing what I love, which is dancing. I want to start dancing again and explore all different kinds of dance expression. And I want to do it within the next two months.

Today I had my first dance class in two years!
While I remembered much of the basic moves, I realized I was insanely out of practice.
I’m glad it wasn’t too difficult to get started again. All it required was for me to pick up the phone!

I am only taking one dance class a week at the moment, which is a lot less than I used to dance; in particular, ballet. However, that one class was enough to re-spark the passion I once had towards dance. Dance classes are not a high priority like they used to be for me at one time, but I have realized that I still enjoy classes and that one class a week is better than nothing. Over the summer, I am hoping to start taking open classes in the city because those are more challenging than what I am currently taking at the local studio.
The hardest part about going back to dance is realizing how much technique, flexibility, and strength went away. It’s hard to not compare myself now to how I used to be but then I remind myself that dwelling on the past doesn’t help. Sure I used to be able to do triple pirouettes on my left side when I was thirteen, and yes my leg was a lot higher when I did developpes, but what hasn’t changed is my love for dance. Dance will always have a part in my life somehow.

Wohoo, going out dancing tonight with Elsa! :) I’ll try to get some of the other girls to join us, too. It’s been ages since we’ve been out with a bigger group, I’m missing it.
The last time I went dancing was with Juho, in the beginning of February. It was fun, but sadly we didn’t get to dance for very long before we had to leave the club. Definitely want to go dancing with him again, too!
