More than one passion? Types of interest? Becoming passionate? 2 years ago

Not sure how I go to that place but about 3 months ago I suddenly realized that my life is too boring too comfortable/predictable without anything exiting happening…

I always loved to read still do but reading is a solitary activity that is hard to share with other people (yeah maybe reading club and such somehow was never into that). That also has a side effect for me of not really going out meeting other people nor doing anything else as I was just too comfy just reading, also without much of activity as in my IT job I sit whole day you get out of shape very quickly…

Now question is how does one develops a passion for things? Generally I’m very emotionally level person, which on one hand is good thing as I do not experience any big lows, but on the other hand thing most of things don’t excite me much (seeing some architectural jewels does not move me at all, nature is better but still nothing really takes my breath away which is bit of shame, but that is me so I don’t get up upset about it see how very emotionally level am I :-))

So when I had I discussion with friend about passion and interests he raised very interesting idea of taking an interest and nurturing it to become a passion. Well I liked that idea a lot a decided to give it a go.

I have decided to take up Aikido(interest of mine) again and was very lucky in finding very good dojo that practices traditional IWAMA style (relatively close by in London distances). Practice is very “budo” with none of the touchy feely stuff. And somehow I managed to make it a “passion” of mine for now. Only issue is to persevere, but that is no problem so far (I practice 3-4 times a week and love it).

Also decided that I’ll start running as that is something I like too. This is working too so far as when I started I was out of breath after 2K and when I finished todays run of 11K I was fine (just that last hill was too long bastard:-)).
Anyway in terms of passion it’s not Aikido for sure. To motivate myself as gadget loving male I got my self Garmin 305(distance/speed meter among other things) that does fine job so far of keeping me running (it tracks all your runs so you can see improvement over time, that is you keep running of course).
Also decided that I will run a half marathon this summer to keep motivation up… How does one make it lifelong thing?

Does anybody have some other way of becoming passionate about stuff?

I feel that if you don’t have passion for what you’re doing, how you are spending your time, what you are thinking about, dreaming about, you aren’t really living.
