A Mariners game
I’ve had an interest in baseball, but I’ve never had any interest in the Seattle Mariners or in Safeco Field. However, in June I had to take a disabled client to a game. She’s 79 and it’s a cherished yearly ritual for her. And I guess as a Red Sox fan myself since embryohood I can kind of understand the poignancy of devotion to a team that perhaps isn’t always very successful.
Most of the time we were there I spent standing in line to buy her things, but I actually started paying attention by the fifth or sixth inning, and I was truly suffused with joy in the top of the ninth when J.J. Putz struck out Barry Bonds and the whole thing ended happily for our side.
