do the 40 hour famine

I just completed the 40 hours without speaking. It wasn’t quite as difficult as I expected, even though I still saw my family and friends. Over the next couple of weeks I’ll be collecting the final donations and finalizing everything. The six of us raised at least $1000 though it could be more.

I’ve signed up as a group leader of six at work to do the 40 Hour Famine this year. Our collective target is $600. Some are going without food, others without certain technology or their phone. I’ve handed out donation booklets and spread the word, and will soon start collecting donation pledges.

I hope to go 40 hours without speaking, which will prepare me a little for the meditation retreat I’d like to take. I have to make sure this is feasible first given my current living arrangements, if that fails I’ll go without the bulk of modern appliances (computer, phones, TV, car, heating). I could also go without cooking technology but I may not be able to avoid electricity consumed in the house.

It wasn’t really that huge of a struggle going 40 hours without food, although I really can’t see myself going any longer than that! It had me really drained though, but I learnt how to deal with my emotions WITHOUT comfort food, which I think was an important lesson. I definately appreciate food more! Plus I got about $60 raised. We signed up a little last minute so next year I’m fully keen to do it again and raise some more! Totally worth doing! :)

I did the 30 hour famine and it was completely worth it! Anyone who is thinking of doing this should do it!

This is a great thing to do but i now hate barley sugar XD and i fed an african family for a month :D

I got my info pack the other day…. cant wait…. i think its a great way to get young ppl involved in saving our world!
