I been doing stand up for almost a year and have been on stage many many times…....Now its time to take it to the next level…....GETTING PAID FOR IT…...!!!!!
How to perform standup comedy
How I did it: I signed up for a 4 week stand up comedy class in my local area. I met like minded people, found out about open mike places in the city and got some comedy tips. Part of the class was performing on stage in front of an audience. I had prepared my own material and did my 3 minute routine. It was a good way to ease myself into the comic scene.
Lessons & tips: * just do it
* practice your routine over and over before performing
* don't expect huge laughs your first time
* feel safe in the knowledge you will get better with practice

I’m glad that little secret project is complete! A friend and I joined a workshop on the spur of the moment. It was meant to be just a workshop, but the teacher gave us an opportunity to perform our own routine at a club. I was too nervous to even post this as a goal, even though some of my innermost thoughts come out on 43T. Well, from what others told me, I went very well, scored genuine laughs and didn’t convey any nervousness (phew!). I really thrive on making others happy. It was a great feeling to know I was capable of performing my own material in front of friends and strangers and get such positive feedback. Now that I’ve done this, now everything else in life looks so much easier :)

Hands down….... really hands down. this is not a stick up….hehehehhe
Well, I haven’t actually gotten up on a stage yet but I have worked out a routine to paractice for my friends.
Besides the writing and recording bits…I think it is getting closer to getting up on stage and doing it….I have kept a lot of this to myself…never wanting to revel my dream to others for free of having them step on them and crushing ‘em…I only told this to my gf and a close friend but in the long run i will be on stage in nyc doing my stand up and getting the laughs and taking my lumps like anything else in life worth doing…...
I was gonna go to an open mic tonight, but I have domestic responsibilities and have to put it off a week…every other night this week is full…and I have the courage to put together 5 good minutes to get on stage with…..
I realize that I opened this account a year ago and I haven’t done anything to perform except a lot of writing and dreaming about it….living inNYc has so many opportunities and reasons to do it but i guess that this is going to be the “umph” to get me off my fat ass and do something about it now…..
I am playing with idea of trying my hand at stand-up. I have decided that before I do so, I will go to some local open-mic nights…and check out the competition. I think this will give me a better idea of where I may stand.
I have always thought that being a stand-up comic requires a special type of skill/talent. It’s a performance art and not at the same time. Some moments you’re acting, some moments you’re just being yourself. Whether your “self” is funny or not, I don’t really think being “funny” is everything in stand-up. A lot of it is carrying yourself, having confidence, and being comfortable in your own skin- no matter how strange looking it may be. ;D
I don’t really have the confidence to do this.
When I come out of my shell and loosen up people always tell me i’m really funny. I’d like to think that was true.
Hopefully one day i will have enough confidence and gett up on stage at an open mike night or something.
