make three new friends

I went to school.
I made about 20 new friends.

Funny how I put “join a softball team” and “make three new friends” as two separate goals. This is how adults make friends…the same way kids do. You have to immerse yourself in your community. You can’t just count on fun people moving in next door.

I think that by joining a softball team this week, I might have clipped two birds with one stone.

Just haven’t figured this one out yet.

I didn’t have problems making friends when I was in school. It’s pretty easy: You’re all about the same age, from the same neighborhood (or close), and there’s plenty of downtime.

Now, as a married adult living in a new place (we moved to Seattle from L.A. 5 years ago and then to nearby Bainbridge Island 4 years ago), the only friends I’ve made up here are people that I work with. Then I left my office job to start working at home.

I guess I’ve got to get out in the community and go to events more. That’s my next step: join some recurring community event where I will at least get to meet more people. Who knows? I might have to meet 300 new people to make 3 new friends.
